Is the New "Escape from New York" a Prequel?
by Scott Weinberg | March 22, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
First came word that Gerard Butler would be starring in a remake of John Carpenter's "Escape from New York," but the filmmaker seems to think the new movie might be more of a prequel than a remake.

In a recent interview in which the new "Escape" came up, Mr. Carpenter had this to say: "I don’t know that it’s a remake. I think it’s a lot about Snake before he gets to New York." But the guy's not really all that involved with all these remakes. (He's already been remade on "Assault on Precinct 13," "The Fog," and Rob Zombie's upcoming "Halloween," don't forget.) "My main involvement is I read the scripts and make sure the character is the same character that we wrote originally. I think that would be cool. My other main involvement in this project is to extend my hand and have a check placed in it."

Gotta love the guy's honesty, eh?

Escape from Leningrad or Escape from Cleveland?

Maybe the point of the first two films is Snake Plissken, not "liberal societies".

Kurt Russell is the Man!

"Call me Snake."

Man, I sure thought they had him back in Cleveland.
