Nicolas Cage Gets a Pair of "National Treasure 2" Costars
by Jeff Giles | March 29, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

It racked up nearly $200 million at the box office, so a sequel was to be expected, but 2004's "National Treasure" made its way onto few (if any) critics' best-of lists, and a person could be forgiven for thinking that the upcoming "National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets" would be nothing more than a cash-in by Disney and star Nicolas Cage. yes, but...
the problem with the first was entirely in the casting of Nic Cage. With he & his dead-eyes returning, this movie will still lack the fun of Indiana Jones. Nic Cage is dead inside.

Whatever Cage is awesome, I wasn't a fan of the first one but not because of him. But with the addition of Harris who is damn cool this one might still turn out allright.

The first movie is over-rated. The movie wasn't at all interesting and reaked of over-marketing so people went to see it garbage. Idependence Day comes to mind as a similarly over-hyped movie. I wouldn't bother seeing a sequel.

Sorry, I must be the only one who liked the first one. A fun, action, suspense that had no swearing? Count me in, that's a rarity in Hollywood.

whatever!?! best line in a movie ever "He's got the Map" lool :p Makes me say that every time i see Sean Bean in a movie. Maybe they should do a crossover with Sahara movie series.

giglin, I believe the line is "He's got the bloody map!" and it wasn't all that memorable to me. I will, however, give the first movie credit for at least being popcorn fun. It was more enjoyable than I wanted to admit.

Hey, I actually ENJOYED National Treasure. I watched it with my family and it was good, clean fun incarnate with a rather talented cast to boot.

Cliched? Absolutely. For some reason, however, people think a couple cliches make the entire movie unenjoyable. In this instance, the hackneyed lines made the movie MORE fun.

Go figure. :)

Oh dear no... the original had an awful script... They overused "The Declaration" so much... they could really just have substituted "it" sometimes.

"Have you got the declaration?"

"No, I thought YOU had the declaration... did you lose the declaration?"

"I did not lose the declaration, the declaration must be with that other guy."

... paraphrased, of course - I don't really remember any "lines" from the film ...

First movie was fine, but I agree with the previous poster, that Nic Cage being involved is the biggest drawback. I think Hollywood's biggest problem right now is casting. They take good movies and ruin them with annoying actors, or vice versa, ruin good actors with bad movies

I think you right with the casting problem. but come on, seriously NT was great for me.
you might say whatever you want, the movie had an original idea period.
it was fresh, not the usual same tired movie formula that Hollywood cant stop cycling from used before (script) (for example, movies which has a bunch of guys (basketball players maybe)never won a championship and then comes a new coach who sees potential in them and lead them to victory.

by the way have you guys seen Ghost rider?

Yes, I've seen it. The movie was crap. Check out my film review of it on www.themaineedge.com. Go under "Biz" and look for it on the right hand side panel. I think its a pretty accurate review of what went wrong.

PS. I have no problem with Nic Cage, I usually like him in film roles.
