Which Springfield Will Host "The Simpsons Movie" Premiere?
16 of the United States has a city called Springfield in it (including my home state of Pennsylania, hooray!), but only one will win the chance to premiere "The Simpsons Movie" this summer!
It sounds like a pretty outlandish promotional plan, but hey, why not get the small town people involved with a movie this ... massive? According to our source, Fox has asked the 16 Springfields to lobby on why their town should host the "Simpsons" flick premiere. Springfield, Illinois, seems to have the inside edge in that they actually have some nuclear power plants.

Springfield, Oregon, might get just a little special treatment, if only because "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening was born and raised in Portland. Either way, the location of the premiere doesn't change the fact that "The Simpsons Movie" opens on July 27th -- and I can't wait.
(Can that be right? Are there ONLY 16 Springfield in the entire country?? Aha, extra research indicates that there are actually 32 Springfields in the U.S. It's just that, um, only half of those towns were asked to participate in the promotion. Ouch.)

Scarborough Fair writes: on Apr 10 2007 01:21 PM He should, and I'll bet dollars to doughnuts he'll be in the movie! I don't watch the movies he makes now, and i think some of his best work was on the simpsons, maybe if he returns and makes a great cameo, he'll get some real work that i'll actually make time to watch. Did anyone else notice that although he apparently refuses to work with matt groening anymore, that the character 'Zap Brannagan" is done by someone WHO IS MORE OR LESS IMITATING HIM? If that show hadn't gone off the air, i'm sure it would've been a 'voice lawsuit'. Maybe at some point in the court precedings, they'd play a tape of *phil hartman talking and say "do you remember saying this, mr hartman?" "well, yeah, i think so." "Oh really? because this is actually the voice of Jeremy Gross, and this is just how he talks. Are we to believe that you'll sue JEREMY every time JEREMY talks??? I rest my case." *J.G. kalabus writes: on Apr 10 2007 02:33 PM Springfield, Illinois Has Evergreen Terrace(ghetto), has a lake Shelbyville and Shelbyville in close proximity, The Simpsons had ties to Kentucky (south of Illinois) and Shelbyville. The plants in Springfield and the white cloud puffing in the sky at all times you see as you drive north on 55. They had tie ins with East St Louis as well. It was Illinois centered until people started taking an interest and finally the creators made it a more ambiguous place. Shelbyville was named after a Kentuckian with a Jebadiah Springfield kind of backstory. The atmosphere of Springfield is entirely Midwestern and based on that post revolutionary war/Daniel Boone explorer kind of heritage. It reaks of small town Illinois. (Reply to this) |

Scarborough Fair writes: on Apr 10 2007 02:46 PM Oh my god, he's dead. Awful. Well, I hope they at least edit something together so he can be in the film. I'm sure they have some jokes they threw out on the editing floor or something that we can re-use here. No one's ever dead once you've recorded them. Or hey, who does that zap brannagan voice? now we're cooking with oil! we don't even need hartman! He'll be laughing in hell when it plays in theatres and his classic characters make an appearance!
