Laurence Fishburne Will Voice "Surfer," Not Galactus
by Scott Weinberg | April 19, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Our sources got one wrong last week. Well, they got it half-right: Laurence Fishburne will indeed be voicing a character in "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," but it won't be the one belonging to Galactus...

Nope, Mr. Fishburne will be voicing the Silver Surfer himself. Early assumption was that actor Doug Jones would be providing the guy's voice, but apparently the producers are going for something a bit more ... intimidating. Recent reports indicate that the Galactus character might not talk at all!

"Hey, you hear about Fishburne?"

So how's this news go down with the "Fantastic Four" fanatics? Does Fishburne "fit" the cult character well enough?

His voice is to recognizable. They should have gone with a no-name

I think he is perfect. I think his voice is much better suited to Surfer than the big guy.

I totally agree. I'm really getting excited about this movie now. I think it'll be a whole lot better than the first movie, and from what most people think of the first one, I don't think it'll be too hard to top.

Yeah, it really backfired when James Earl Jones voiced over David Prowse in the first Star Wars trilogy. C'mon! It's not what I expected, but Fishburne has the right timbre for the Surfer. I think it will work!

Hm. I like Fisburne, but I wouldn't liked his casting a lot more if he was voicing Galactacus.

i agree with the first poster, he's wayyy too farmiliar of a voice for that character. I don't think that voice fits his character anyway... I would almost think the guy who voiced Sonny in I-Robot woul dbe a better fit, or Doug Jones himself...

Unless they filter his voice electronically, with some sort of synthesized metallic personality to it, then i could see it working for him... but at the moment, im having a hard time accepting Morpheus dipped in chrome riding a surfboard.

That's to bad for Doug Jones, I wish they would have just left him the voice work.

Either one works, but I would've preferred he voice Galactus. Even if he is a damn cloud.
