Has Casting Begun on "Wolverine"?
by Scott Weinberg | April 30, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
No, we don't have any names just yet, but the fact that there's presently a casting call for the "Wolverine" movie tells us that pre-production is officially underway on the "X-Men" spinoff.

We know that Hugh Jackman is returning, and also that the screenplay comes from "Troy" scribe David Benioff, but that's about it so far. One source provides a vague casting call notice that asks for "males and females, all ages and types," so there's no clues to be found there. Actors have to get their demo reels in by August 30th, so I guess we can expect some casting announcements around then -- or probably earlier.

The IMDb indicates that Ken Watanabe and Brian Cox are "rumored" to be on board, so there's two roles you can maybe scratch off the list.

Should've been a spinoff of X-Men, not a prequel. As for "Wolverine was the main character in all the X-Men movies," well, yeah, as he was in the comics too. Frankly, they did a nice balance in the flicks and all of them were good and loyal to the books as best as they could've been while still seeking a new audience.

I'd rather see Magneto. In the movie's Wolverine's lacking the bad ass shit he has in the comics, he's alot more gay ass.

yeah they need to make a bad ass wolverine movie if it's going to be good. A lot less nice. because wolverine is the best there is at what he does and what he does isn't very nice.
I think the best action scene of any of the three X films was when he unleashes a beating on the camandoes that come into the school. that was pretty bad ass.

Eek! Watanabe-san? If he's in this movie, I'm seeing it no matter how crappy it looks.

True, a great Wolverine film requires a hardcore Wolverine. But it's silly to say he was nice in the X films or, worse, "gay", which says less than nothing. Wolverine was one of the few things they actually did well in the trilogy.

About those TPS Reports...
Bill Lumberg and Wolverine in the same movie... this gets more interesting all the time.

While Jackman's portrayal of Wolvie have all been quite good, I just can't get past his ridiculous hair. It looks stupid beyond belief. Who wears their hair like that in real life? I know it's loyal to the comics, but there are some things that look better on the page than on screen.

Give him a normal, Van Helsing haircut, and I'll be a lot happier.

Yes, I'm a nitpicker.

Wolverine is far from being the main character in the comic books, Lizard Brain. He certainly had his own story lines (and his own comic), but when it was x-men time he was part of the ensemble, not leading the fights. Look it up.

I agree with the previous poster. After the snore that was the X-Men movies, we don't need this. We've already had it.

What's stupid about your comment is you spring from your misunderstanding of mine in a clumsy attempt to cast yourself in a better light. So let's try this again, fool. Clearly, and you might notice this if you take your head out of your ass and read my earlier post carefully, I was saying nothing at all even resembling something negative against gay people. Neither was I accusing you of doing it. The point was that calling a movie "gay" says nothing about the movie. It's a lazy attempt at criticism. So all this nonsense about "queer homophobes" and "biggoted trolls", save it for the kids in your class. Or at least if you're gonna attempt to insult me, try for something that might actually apply.

LOL. You just love picking on me, don't you, bbro? Still mad I "stole" your girlfriend back '98? I told you, man. It wasn't my fault. I warned you not to take her to that horrible Star Trek movie. ;-)
