Unlikely Sequel Report: "Crank 2" and The Return of "Maverick"
by Scott Weinberg | May 02, 2007
Discuss Article
It's not a big surprise when we share the news of a "Spider-Man 3" or "Saw 4," but recently we've been hearing about a few possible follow-ups that we didn't see coming. Namely, the Jason Statham action flick "Crank" and the Mel Gibson comedy/western "Maverick."

If you saw the "Crank" flick, then you're probably wondering how writer/directors Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine are going to pull a sequel off, but they're not spilling any beans just yet. Here's what they had to say: "There will be a sequel to Crank yes. Prepare to Crank again. And you know the "is it a sequel or prequel" question... IT'S A SEQUEL. We're not selling out and going prequel. We are picking up where the last movie left off."

And if that's not curious enough, it looks like Mel Gibson wants to get back in front of the cameras and make a sequel. Nope, not to "Mad Max" or "Lethal Weapon." He says those series have more than run their course by now. Nope, his new plan is to partner up with James Garner again and give the world a "Maverick 2."

From Mr. Gibson: "There's talk of doing another Maverick. Garner and I have been looking at that for a while. It'd be fun to play that character again ... It won't be happening immediately, but I dare say, it'll happen."

We shall see.

Not a bad idea...
From her performance with the mailbox and Jason in the first one, I would PAY to see her get cranked up. She just needs to sharpen the acting skills a bit as she wasn't that great in the first one.

Crank of the Dead!
What really happens in the sequel is Jason gets infected by some virus and actually turns into a zombie after he hits the hard asfault, thats why you hear his heartbeat stop and he winks a bit at the end. He's really a zombie!

So now, he's going after everybody else that pissed him off or shorted him change at Mickey D's for his 2 cheeseburgers 3 months ago, because he is one bad dude.

Good PR, Mel...when it doubt, return to a "nice" character to win your audience back.

Fuck Crank
I don't give a rat's ass about Crank. I'm more hyped up on Mel Gibson returns to the big screen (as an actor), but I'm not sure a sequel is the right move though...?

wow, what isn't in line for a sequel? Forever Young...uhm...Old? Air America 2? odd choice for a sequel but, i loved the first one so i can't complain...

Crank 2 won't be hard to create or keep goin' because he didn't die in the first one(sorry, hope you all saw it...). i'd rather him do a Transporter sequel, both had lots of action but one was more jackie chan kiddy-cartoony(crank) and the other one he was a bad2ss(transporter).

Does anyone even remember Maverick? All I remember, and correct me if im wrong, is that it was made by Lucasarts.

Crank 2? really? seriously? hmm........ okay, i'll see it. why not, the first one was good mindless fun.

I really enjoyed the first Maverick. It was well done and fun without being ludicrously family oriented sappy tripe which seems to be a hard combination to find nowadays. Plus any excuse to see James Garner on the big screen again while we still can is alright by me.

For the sequel to crank, maybe he got amy smart pregnant, and the kid will now rip out of her belly, alien-style, all cranked up and ready to cause havoc.

Even after the decent but dissapointing Transporter 2, I'm pretty sure he actually did.

I enjoyed Maverick as well and I have nothing against James Garner. But, isn't he older than the dinosaurs?

Yes Maverick was made/produced/funded by Lucasfilms. The Lucasfilms logo was made to look like a poker card.

Mel Gibson Sequel/Crank 2
Well, Gibson sure as hell wasn't going to do a sequel to "The Passion of the Christ"! (He may think he's the Second Coming, but I think "South Park" had him pegged right...).

As for Crank 2, BRING IT ON! That movie was a freakin' roller coaster ride, powered by pure testosterone - definitely NOT a "chick flik"!!! As to how they will do it after the Crank ending, I guess we'll just have to wait and see - I just pray we don't see Amy Smart get out of bed and find Jason Statham in the shower like Bobby Ewing LOL.
