Gruffudd Compares Fishburne's Silver Surfer to Jones'

With the recent announcement that Laurence Fishburne would provide the voice of the Silver Surfer, the stars of "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" were as surprised as everyone. Ioan Gruffudd shared his reaction to the post-production casting.

"I think it's great," said Gruffudd. "I think he's got a very distinctive voice and very mellifluous voice and I think he's going to be great."

On the set, Gruffudd heard Doug Jones speaking all of the Silver Surfer lines. "We were hearing Doug on the set, yeah. He was literally there creating this character which they then took away and made the CGI version of the Silver Surfer. But he's a wonderful actor so for that, we are forever grateful because we had something to work off."

Looking back, Gruffudd said he would have not have altered his performance if he'd known they would recast the voice "No, I don't think so because the character himself, Doug created the character. We can't really change much of it now because the mouth is already there moving."

"Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" hits theaters June 15.

In the trailer, the voice of the Surfer was still Jones; didn't seem bad. I wonder if the Fisbourne's voice will be able to match up well with Jones' mouth movements... would be ridiculous if it looked bad.
