Peter Jackson's "Bones" Land at DreamWorks

For those who adore Peter Jackson but keep wondering when he's going to get back to something smaller (and by "smaller" I mean "something not massive"), I have some good news...

Paramount will distribute the $65 million dollar film, which is an adaptation of "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. It's about a 14-year-old (dead) girl who watches over her family (and her killer) from above. It's a book that Jackson's been planning to cinemize for quite some time now, and the production will finally begin in October.

DreamWorks dude Steven Spielberg said this: "When you read an emotionally magical story that cries out to be turned into a major motion picture, you hope its winding path can find its way to the door of your own company."

Sounds like a very promising project, and a movie I look forward to seeing. And the Jackson can do another $200 million monster movie!!!

I sure hope they don't pick Dakota Fanning to play this part. She's not a bad actress, but just because she's one of the best out there doesn't mean you're entitled to cast her. I'm getting tired of seeing the same familiar faces in every other movie out there, ie Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Samuel L. Jackson, etc.

true though i dont know what you mean about Tom Hanks...he's not in enough movies if you ask me. He's only starred in a handful since around the year 2000.

who said dakota fanning is the best out there?? she is a horrible actress, she's wonderful at playing 8 year olds but she just whines and screams in every movie there is way better actresses out there.

I'd be surprised if they do because she's not quite old enough to pull off 14 yet. Hopefully they'll get some relatively unknown actress for the part. Nonetheless I look forward to this film. The book was good and this takes Jackson back to his "Heavenly Creatures" mode of filmmaking.

If a 13 year old can't pull off 14 she must really not be as good as eveyone thinks she is.

...sorry couldn't resist

In other news, I would agree that Dakota Fanning is kind of an institution and basically anything that she is in becomes a Dakato Fanning vehicle, likewise Peter Jackson is an instution and everything he does becomes a vehicle Peter Jackson vehicle (though his carte blache privilges may be tempered in the future do to the relative lack of success of King Kong). Would they work well together? Who knows? Considering they'e only just announced the project are there are not yet any interesting rumors that they are even considering thinking about casting, debating the suitability of one actress simply because she is a young teenage actress is to say the least pre-mature.

I guess I should have clarified. She doesn't seem old enough based on my perception of the girl in the book, who actually acted older than fourteen. Most likely because of the whole "being in heaven looking down" perspective.

I'd say to get the girl from "Pan's Labyrinth", but I think she might be a few years too young (plus, I'm not sure if she can speak english).

What about the little girl from Whale Rider. I haven't seen her in anything else. She wasn't too shabby.

Agreeing with the post that says all Dakota Fanning movies are Dakota Fanning movies. However good she is an a given role, you just know that it's her. Same thing with Tom Cruise and Owen Wilson and other famous faces. So I support the idea of some relatively unknown actress for this part.

I like that Keisha Castle-Hughes idea. She just had her baby, so the pregnancy is no longer an issue. But ~*Admiral Snowstorm*~, "Agreeing with the post that says all Dakota Fanning movies are Dakota Fanning movies. However good she is an a given role, you just know that it's her. You must not watch any movies with any famous actors in them if that's your thinking!

I completely agree with Admiral Snowstorm. Think of Johnny Depp. He plays the same fucking weird guy in every film he's been in. Ed Wood, weirdo. Jack Sparrow, weirdo. Willy Wonka, weirdo. That guy in "Dead Man" was a weirdo, too. The guy from Secret Window. Edward Scissorhands. Even James Barrie (however it's spelled) was a fucking weirdo (and, to add, Depp gave him a completely incorrect accent). The guy from Blow. Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

I'm waiting for him to star in the Marilyn Manson biopic.
Yeah, think about THAT. it actually doesn't seem like that bad an idea.

These are the kind of movies made for unknowns to make names for themselves.
