Naomi Watts to Be Nasty in "Harry Potter 6"?
by Scott Weinberg | May 07, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
You'll forgive me for not knowing much about the character named "Narcissa Malfoy," but recent gossip indicates that she might pop up in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," and also that she could be played by Britsh cutie Naomi Watts.

I remember enough about the movies to know that Watts would be playing the wife of Jason Isaacs' character (right?), but for more specifics I'll just rely on our news source: "None other than Naomi Watts to step into the role of Narcissa Malfoy nee Black? Narcissa is Lucius Malfoy’s wife, Draco’s mother, Bellatrix Lestrange’s sister, both cousins of Sirius Black – needless to say, "Cissy" is a raging bitch with a key scene at the beginning of The Half Blood Prince."

So now it's time to play Ask the Potter Readers: Is Naomi Watts a good choice for this particular character?

Shes a good choice for sure.

Shes also good eye candy in a series otherwise lacking in hotness.

Hermione's well on her way though :)

Hate to be a stickler, but I think you'll find Naomi Watts is AUSTRALIAN, not British.
She'll have no problems though. Most aussie actors can fake the accent beautifully. It's where their own is derived from.

You can't be a stickler when you are wrong.

She was born in the UK but raised in AU... which would be good enough for HP.

I think you'd find she'd call herself Australian, but yeah she was UK-born, Aus Bred.

Naomi would be an awesome addition to the already stellar HP cast, but she is so hot I would have a hard time hating her as Narcissa like in the books!
Not a bad problem to have though...

She may be able to pull off a brit accent, but her american accent in KK was off. It wasn't bad, but the lack of any regional accent made it sound flat and it completely stuck out throughout the film.

Ok, I have a question... where these threads always this stupid and I just never noticed? I mean just today, there's the completely irrelevent question of whether or not Dakota Fanning would be good in the recently announced Peter Jackson project that makes no mention of casting consideration... and here's this thread devoted completely to the question of where Naomi Watts was born/raised, which is supposedly relevent to question of whether or not she'd be good in the role of Draco's mom in HP6...

Watts is great and I would love to see her added to the cast. As for it being a pretty small role, I'm sure it will get expaneded in book seven.

Spikes, the question over where Naomi Watts was born/raised is relevant to the Harry Potter films because they rarely, if ever, cast non-brittish actors. I initially thought this was a bogus rumor because I thought she was Australian, but apparently she is UK born. BTW, people just love to chat Online about everything under the sun, no matter how stupid.

The age thing...
She's supposed to be the mother of 16 year old Draco Malfoy. Isn't she too young? I love her, but I'm not sure she would look old enough for the part.

Hey, if you were a hot babe and you could do magic, wouldn't your first magical task be to make yourself look perpetually 25, even if you were actually 47? In those circumstances I think she's quite reasonable for the part.

Wow. I never thought of her for that role, but now that I actually have, I think she'd be perfect. :) Ooh, now I'm all excited for the next movie(s)!

She would do a great job, I think. It's a pretty small part, but it'd be nice to see a big Hollywood name in a Harry Potter movie.

Calling Naomi Watts British is like calling Nicole Kidman American (she was born in Hawaii)

...That's what I'm wondering, to be honest. Narcissa's appearance, however important, is short. And she doesn't even appear again after that. I don't think there's really a point in hiring such a renowned actress for the part. Just pluck any random blonde woman off the street.

I believe that Naomi Watts is in her mid-30's so I guess her being Draco Malfoy's mother isn't too much of a stretch. It's not like they've cast Paris Hilton in the role. I'm not a huge Potterhead but as I recall, Narcissa is able to do a spell that keeps her perpetually young, so yes, Naomi Watts is a great choice for the role. I mean who else could you see as Narcissa?
