Banderas Denies "Sin City 2" Gig
by Scott Weinberg | May 08, 2007
Discuss Article
Just because he's worked with Robert Rodriguez a half-dozen times already, that doesn't mean Antonio Banderas is a lock to appear in "Sin City 2" -- despite what recent rumors have been suggesting.

From the mouth of Antonio: "People keep asking me about this, but I don't know anything about it ... But the way this man works, he will literally call me the night before and say, 'Let's do this movie.' And I will do it. I've done six movies with him, and that is the way he works."

Mr. Banderas (who's been asked the question a bunch of time on his "Shrek the Third" publicity tour) didn't appear in the first "Sin City," so I'm wondering where all of these rumors (suddenly) came from. The actor expresses a lot of affection for the filmmaker who helped make him a movie star ("I would follow Robert Rodriguez into hell if he asked me to do it.") and says he'd definitely sign on for the sequel should the director need his help.

Rodriguez and Banderas previously worked together on "Spy Kids," "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams," "Spy Kids 3-D," "Four Rooms," "Desperado," and "Once Upon a Time in Mexico."

At this point I don't give a crap who's going to be in it as long as they hurry along with it and get it released so we can see it! Only showing the new teaser to famous people...how selfish can you be???

i dont know, i just can't picture banderas fitting in with the sin city atmosphere/look. maybe if he has a smaller part it'll work.

RR has mentioned that he wants Banderas for SC2 multiple times.

If you throw a bunch of make-up on him to look all dirty and scruffy, he'd be on the same lines as Del Toro was in the first. I'd love to see him in this.

Yep, you got me there. My simple mind absolutely can't comprehend your astronomically-lofty concept. Can you please explain it to me, because I just don't get it.

No, really, seriously. Explain it to me. You make no sense.

Then buy me a toy.

hahaha I love how childish these responses get.

Anyway, Banderas would be great for the main character in Hell and Back, but I think a lot of people already have their hearts set on Johnny Depp, who i think also could do very well at the part. Maybe Banderas could shave his head and play Clive Owen's character in the beginning of A Dame to Kill For (that was a joke). He might be able to get away with the guy that he kills for Ava. I think he needs to wait for a Sin City 3, though. Which i doubt will ever get made. I think part 2 would be a critical bomb.

if you want a toy, you're going to have to stop screaming and whining, otherwise i'll be forced to tell your mommy how you've been acting. in the mean time, why don't you just suck on a pacifier. that should calm you down for a while.

Ahhhh, the old 'opinion as fact' approach, popularized by the Republican party.

I like this game. Let me try. *achem*

Robert Rodriguez can't make a sequel work.

I dunno, is there a character in "A Dame to Kill For" that would be perfect for Banderas?

It wouldn't suprise me to see Banderas make a small cameo as Ava's husband. That would be a role that he could come in on short notice and do in one day if he had to so that makes the most sense for him in Sin City 2. I imagine Depp will be the star of Sin City 3 which I'm sure will focus alot of Wallace from Hell and Back. There is alot of material to cover in the last book. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THEM!!! But I now know that by 2010 all questions will be answered in Lost so I guess I have some time to wait! I MAKE NO GUARANTEES AFTER THAT THOUGH SO THEY HAD BETTER HURRY!!!
