Eddie Murphy to Star in "Fantasy Island"
by Scott Weinberg | May 10, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
If there's one thing better than a movie in which Eddie Murphy plays multiple (wacky) characters, it's got to be a movie based on a kitschy old TV show. Welcome to "Fantasy Island"!!

According to sources, Mr. Murphy will indeed play multiple roles in a big-screen version of ABC's "Fantasy Island," which ran from 1978 to 1984 and therefore was probably never watched by anyone reading these words right now. (The show starred Ricardo Montalban and it was about a magical island on which guest stars could have their fondest wishes come true ... temporarily.)

And the news just gets better: Murphy will be reuniting with his "Norbit" screenwriters on this flick, which he'll get to work on right after "Starship Dave." No word yet on who'll be directing this inevitable masterpiece. And how has nobody made a "Love Boat" flick yet?

I used to watch Fantasy Island every week. That show was still better than most of the crap that passes for entertainment these days. Especially "Reality", ha, ha, "TV".

(that's roughly the sense of outrage I'd feel -- if I cared about this stinker at all). Maybe if Eddie played "Tattoo"...

Can anyone explain what was the underlying plot of the original series? What was Mr Roarke suppose to be? I am sure I saw an episode which alluded to him being god or an angel or something like that... Didn't he fight a girl that was possessed by the devil? OMG.. I am lame for remembering this...

Actually, I seem to recall him actually just plain fighting the devil, who may or may not have been played by Roddy McDowell, at one point. I don't think it was ever stated who or what he was supposed to be.

Anyway, yeah, this is a terrible idea.

I really doubt this is going to be any good but they gotta cast Vern Troyer as Tattoo.

Wasn't there a remake of this show several years ago? I can't remember who it starred. I guess that Hollywood will make a movie based on just about any old TV show to make a quick buck.
