McDowell Says Zombie's "Halloween" Remake To Be A Trilogy

While the notion of Rob Zombie's "Halloween" remake may divide fans, the idea of a remake trilogy must be at the very least interesting. Let's just hope they don't remake "Season of the Witch."

"I've signed for three," said Malcolm McDowell, who is playing Dr. Loomis. "How about that? They obviously think it's going to be a big hit."

Having never seen a "Halloween" movie before, McDowell is confident that his portrayal of Loomis will be unique. "I have to tell you that I've never seen Halloween 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7. I must be one of the only people on the planet never to have seen any of the films and I'm so glad because I asked the director, Rob Zombie, whether he thought I should see them and he said, 'No, better no.'"

Though friendly with Donald Pleasance in his life, McDowell never managed to catch his friend's iconic role. "I could imagine him playing Loomis of course with that sinister thing that he has but it's a new look, it's a reinvention of it and he is completely different, my Loomis, I presume. So I guess there will be some people that will be sort of disappointed if they think I'm just going to copy him because I'm not."

McDowell was also informed that there were 8 "Halloween" movies before this remake. "Well, I'm obviously talking to an expert."

Original Halloween's sucked, so as long as the first remake is good I don't care if they create another two.

I have high hopes for Zombie too, hopefully he doesn't hold back on anything.

I demand more sets of three films! Hopefully, Eddie Murphy wises up and turns Fantasy Island into a trilogy as well. The world needs more mediocre trilogies so we have something to look forward to seeing out of obligation every year.

Isn't it obvious? He's from the planet of Goremonger, where no one cares about story, characters, or suspense, only that as much grue get thrown on the screen as quickly as possible. You know, the same people that have been releasing the majority of "horror" films in the past few years.

Unlike the hardcore fanboys (see the first day of shooting), I'm open to knew ideas. If they feel the need to make more (FYI, I support killing off horror fanchises), then a reimaging of the series was the best move, as a sequel would just create more confusing among the on going storyline (seriously, how many more excuses can they give for Michael for coming back without rolling my eyes?). I just wish Zombie can create proper continuity with 3 movies, unlike the last series.

Did you even watch the first two ? Cause they take place on the same day. The first one ends exactly where the second one starts. Now the third one is a little off but come on.

I just hope Rob Zombie does not try to go cheesy tarrantino artistic like he did with Devil's Rejects and make a drama thriller with this. Keep it a gorefest like House of 1000 Corpses, I am ok with that. Would be nice to see Sheri Moon naked too , can't complain there. I am excited to see what he produces , hopefully its good , if not I will probably still laugh.

From what I have seen the prologue of Mike Myers life looks good before he turns crazy but then he looks like an oversized character from the Puppetmaster series. Hopefully Zombie will be able to put it together, though it worries me that he wanted to release this in the summer and not October.

Even the biggest Halloween fan does have to admit though that after you've seen the original so many times, you do realize that it is one...of...the...slowest...movies...ever. Seriously, the middle hour is a chore to sit through. You try showing this to kids now that haven't seen it, and it doesn't have the same effect, because they grew up on the faster paced stuff. You could say that the acting is better than similar movies today, which could be true. You could say there's more characterization, which could also be true. You could say that it's more suspenseful, which is DEFINATELY true, but it's not really a movie that you throw in nowadays if you and your buddies are looking for a fun horror flick to watch.

To the people that say "Oh, this is gonna suck!" (you've got a lot of those types on this site I've noticed), what would you prefer? I've seen some of the complainers say that they should have just done another sequel if they had to do ANYthing with the franchise. Ummm, why? What would you rather see, a remake by someone that admires and gives a damn about the source material, or a continuation of a story that kept getting worse and worse that no one gave a sh!t about? Do you want to see what Rob Zombie can do or do you want Busta Rhymes to inexplicably bust into another kung fu demonstration?

I am a big Halloween fan, and I can certainly agree with most of your points. I for one have no problem with an update and I assume it will be faster paced, I just hope he still tries to throw in some characters we care about, instead of walking meat bags waiting to get filleted. No doubt movies have to move faster these days, unfortunately, but to say the original sucks is just wrong. You can not like it, but if you're a true movie fan, at least show appreaciation for what it achieved. After all, without Halloween, the gorefests everyone likes now days would most likely not exist.

And I'm actually pointing most of this at doink, not you PlanB.

Yes, throw me into the "all i want is gore" category simply because I think Halloween sucks. Are you guys all like 50 or something?! It's hard to appreciate older movies when you're younger, especially when they're so crappy. They're incredibly slow movies with a villain who magically appears no matter where the characters are. they could drive off into another state and surprise! He pops out of a closet with a knife! Oh and let's no forget the fact that he can be shot ten times in the head or something ridiculous and not die... yeah, great movies.

Give me something smart, scary, and something that makes sense. I can't even watch Halloween anymore without laughing, the series is a complete joke.

a trilogy? its bad enough they're remaking a "same ol' thang" horror movie with a guy that won't die(and obviously isn't real) who kills people. lets get the first one over with and see how ya do there buddy, then we can talk 2 and 3. although i won't complain as long as the deaths are creative and of course...b33bies...
