Jet Li vs. Jason Statham in the "War" Trailer
by Scott Weinberg | May 15, 2007
Discuss Article
Who's up for another Jason Statham action flick? This one's got Jet Li as the villain!

Previously known as "Rogue" (which is also the title of a killer croc flick that'll be hitting your video stores some time soon), the Jason Statham / Jet Li actioner "War" will explode into theaters on September 14th. In it, Statham will play an FBI agent obsessed with tracking down a brutal assassin (played by Li.)

Here's the trailer. The director (Phillip G. Atwell) and the screenwriters (Lee Anthony Smith & Gregory J. Bradley) are all first-timers, but hey, the flick's got two solid action stars going toe to toe. Looks like enjoyable mindless fun. I hope.

Hmmm. In no way will this film be applauded for the plot, but it'll be fun.

whatever happened to Hero being his last martial arts movie ever? I'm sure this was heavily discussed when the Jet Li/Jackie Chan talk came around, i just forget...

How many people work for the FBI with British accents, I wonder?

I think Hero was supposed to be his last Martial Arts Epic, which they defined as him playing a hero from Chinese legend, so essentially no more period pieces. But I never believed that anyway.

Just like "The One", it's going to be a great popcorn flick.

Fearless was the one that was supposed to be his last martial arts epic. i don't think "War" counts as a martial arts epic. i can't say that the trailer "wowed" me, but Jet Li and Jason Statham are two actors who can play the same characters over and over and i'll still go see the movie because they just play them so damn well that it makes for a fun popcorn flick. nothing more, nothing less.

ANYTHING stathom is in that i've seen is gold. the dude is the best action star nowadays(since Diesel vanished after that kid movie) so putting him up with Li should be pretty sweet. now...if only he could be a villian in a Bond movie...

Why did they go and change the name? I think "Rogue" was a hell of a lot better than the generic and forgettable new "War" title.

Fearless (not Hero) was supposed to be his last wuxia film which is basically the genre he built his stardom on. I doubt it though. Just taking a gander at his upcoming projects on imdb says otherwise.

His last wuxia... Did anyone ever even believe that "news"? When I heard it, all I thought was, "well, it's Michael Jordan all over again."

I am pretty srue I caught a glimpse of Devon Akoi in that trailer. I can't understand why they keep putting that girl in movies. She can't act and she is not that much fun to look at. What's the draw?

I kept hearing about this movie and thinking, "This sounds like a fun, big dumb fun movie."

Then I saw the trailer. With the rap music. And the action wasn't exactly blowing me away.

I'll wait until the final product to judge, but I do love some mindless entertainment that has some great fights now and again. But not rap music, damnit.

It's some sort of generic hip-hop, like the kind you hear in other trailers for action movies. So stop bitching you pussies about "it's another rap movie". Nowhere did I see DMX or the ghost of Aaliyah in the trailer or any black actor/actress for that matter. Go on dorks and pray that hell freezes over so Jackson actually gets "The Hobbit".
