Avi Arad Spills a Few Beans on the Origins of "Magneto"
by Scott Weinberg | May 16, 2007
Discuss Article
When he's not out working on his new Marvel movies, producer Avi Arad is talking about his new Marvel movies. To everyone.

Here's what Mr. Arad had to say to MTV about the upcoming "Magneto" spinoff: "Think of meeting him in [the first "X-Men" movie] as a young boy in a concentration camp. What happens to his life after the war?" (Wasn't that in the second movie?)

A.A. also confirms that the flick will also feature a young Charles Xavier, plus there are a few hints at "Brotherhood" alliances to come. (Please let it be a young Mystique.) Comic book expert David Goyer is directing and co-writing the "Magneto" origin movie, which is expected to hit theaters in '09.

Are they still going to do that computer generated effect where it used the old original magneto and makes him look young? I thought I remember reading that awhile ago...

"Wasn't that in the second movie?"

No, that was the opening scene to the first movie.

I'd much rather see X-Men 4...

weak...

they should just remake X3 and fix it. Instead of having the Pheonix be all stupid looking, have her be the big ass firey bird that Singer started to do in X2. Oh, and drop the whole "i love you" scene at the end. That seriously made me laugh. I think Cyclops could still die. I don't know anyone who wasn't ok with killing off that whiny bitch.

Uh, after "The Invisible" I would have to modify the following with quotation marks: Comic book expert David Goyer is "directing." Who keeps giving these people money to direct? They're not directors. They're pawns in movie negotiations. At least someone was smart enough to stop giving money to Michael Cimino after he directed--how many flops in a row?

Sometimes name recognition is enough to get a directing assignment.

do it rght damnit
the only way this movie will work is if its not a flimsy comic snore and have Sir Ian narrate it and use dark tone, yes he was in love (durr) but thats not his whole deal, Magneto damn sure better get the respect he deserves as someone who faced A LOT of struggles. All I'm asking for is a true tale and not a fluff piece that once again proves that just because those CGI guys can do thigs, doesn't mean they should.

Nice obscure reference, but the answer is (arguably) four. You'd have been better off naming Uwe Boll or Bob Clark.

Oddly, I think I have seen this movie already... only it was called Hannibal Rising. And despite what critics thought of that film, it was a rather decent way of depicting the "rise" of what would eventually become one of the greatest supervillains, and told in such a way that it actually has us rooting for him.

I'd be fine if Goyer wrote the film, so long as Christopher Nolan directed it and co-wrote it.

Priceless Irony.
