New "Halloween" Explores Michael Myers' Backstory
by Fred Topel | May 16, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

Casting 6' 10" Tyler Mane as Michael Myers certainly suggests this "Halloween" killer could be the most imposing. But Rob Zombie's remake also promises to delve more into Myers' past to explain why he became the famous slasher killer. Back to Article

Hmm...? Wha...? Rob Zombie's making the 532nd reworking of Halloween? Yeah I know, the trailer put me to sleep. Wow, I'm amazed at how little I care about this.

Well said.

Anyway, yeah. We all know this. I wonder if the studios pay bucks for features like these to be put on the website, to create some hype.

Either way, I'm seeing this.

Why? I'm interested in seeing this, but "begginings" for horror movies don't turn out that great (Texas Chainsaw Massacre Beggining, Hanibal Rising, 'nuff said)

I'm the kinda' person who goes into sporadic fits of premature ejaculation whenever I see Rob Zombie's name on something. EVEN SO. I don't give rat's scrunched up little pellet popping ass about this film. Not even a superficial connection between John Carpenter (one of my film heroes) and Rob can make me care about this.

John made a few shitty movies in his time, and they ALL seem to be coming back in equally shitty iterations (The Fog....uggh). I wish Rob would keep going with his imagination.

Wow, another "origin of a fictional character" as a friend of mine would call it. Did Hollywood forget that this storyline is supposed to be the fourth or fifth movie of the series?

Actually it's technically the 9th movie in the series, one more than Freddy Kreuger was featured in (though Michael Myers is only in 8 of these films). If they keep to the idea of a new trilogy, it will be 11 "Halloween" movies. There have already been too many. The original is undeniably a classic, and "H20" was okay, while a few of the others had moments. Most of them were really very bad, and I just hope that this "resurrection" of the character is actually suspenseful and clever, instead of gory and dumb, because if it makes money and is dumb the studio will finance another slew of terrible sequels. We audience members ought to be wary. I am tired of the garbage that is being put out in the horror genre (and the comedy genre, too). Can't anyone make GOOD scary movies anymore???

Well, I'm not sure if this one will break the trend of awfulness, but I'll give Zombie the chance to prove me wrong.
