Gerard Butler Joins "Capone Rising" Cast
Gerard Butler, of bearded "300" fame, is the latest to join the cast of "The Untouchables: Capone Rising," Variety reports. Butler will topline the film, playing one of the leads.
Butler is quoted as saying, naturally, that the script to "Capone Rising" is so good it’s "unbelievable." He joins Nicolas Cage, playing Al Capone himself, in this prequel to 1987’s "The Untouchables."
Director Brian de Palma will begin shooting "Capone Rising" in October, with distributor Universal angling for a release sometime in 2008.

on May 18 2007 05:00 PM De Palma could film a pile of manure for 2 hours and it would be better than The Black Dahlia was. (Reply to this) |

on May 18 2007 05:29 PM De Palma's involement is either really good or just the opposite. (Reply to this) |

on May 18 2007 06:19 PM Hmmm.... It coculd be good, atleast its the same director as the first, not sure about Cage as Capone, and about Butler...depends on his role. (Reply to this) |
![]() on May 18 2007 07:00 PM A mix of Black Dahlia and Cage going around randomly screaming like an idiot in a bear costume...this will be great! At least Butler is a good actor. (Reply to this) |

on May 18 2007 07:01 PM Cage needs roles he can play his intense mad-dog self in and not look out of place. Capone is not really a reserved character so I think Cage will nail it. Butler... I need to see him in a movie where he does not speak in catch phrases and wear a loincloth the whole time. I don't know if he can act or not. But, 2 hrs. of these hilariously intense actors just snarling at each other sounds like fun to me. Plus, DePalma is a visual genius. He just picks Baaaad scripts. No one has ever knocked his directorial chops though. At the very least this should look great and be very entertaining, either in a good way, or a so-bad-it’s-good way. Either way... sounds fun. can we change that fucking generic title though?!!?!?! (Reply to this) |

on May 18 2007 09:58 PM In reply to this comment (#866002) I don't know why people come on these forums to say "X person's involvement is gonna be really good or really bad" OR "this movie is either gonna be a huge hit or a huge bomb." Yeah, thanks for your opinion On that note, this Untouchables movie is gonna be really good or really bad (Reply to this) |

on May 19 2007 05:21 AM In reply to this comment (#866006) Well, I meant that De Palma has made some great movies (Mission Impossible, Scarface), but he's directed some real shit recently (Don't get me started about The Black Dahlia) (Reply to this) |

![]() on May 19 2007 11:18 AM the 300 apes should be happy nuff said. with nick cage combined with butler, this should be pretty funny, i hope its as funny as it sounds. oh wait...this is a prequel to the untouchables? (Reply to this) |

on May 20 2007 09:03 AM does anybody else think its weird that nick cage is gonna be al capone? (Reply to this) |

on May 20 2007 02:03 PM I just hope this prequel is at least somewhat historically accurate. The Untouchables is a great movie but the whole plot was entirely bogus. None of that movie was true at all except for the fact that capone ruled chicago because of his ruthless methods and Elliot Ness formed the untouchables to bring him down. That's it, beyond that the whole movie was fictionalized. Oh yeah, and nic cage is gonna suck as capone. (Reply to this) |

on May 20 2007 03:21 PM I can see Gerard Butler playing the younger version of Sean Connery's character in the first one. He seems to have that accent that would work perfect. He was great in "Dear Frankie" and "Reign of Fire" and of course the only movie anyone talks about "300" he just plain rocked.... (Reply to this) |
