Paul W.S. Anderson to Helm "Spy Hunter"
by Scott Weinberg | June 04, 2007
Discuss Article
Not too long ago it was supposed to be John Woo and The Rock doing "Spy Hunter" duty. Now it's Paul W.S. Anderson and ... who knows?

According to Variety, Mr. Anderson (best known as the guy who directed "Resident Evil," "Alien vs. Predator," and "Event Horizon") will step in and direct "Spy Hunter" for Universal once he's finished with his remake of "Death Race 2000," also at Universal.

No word yet on whether or not Mr. Rock is still connected to the project. It's reported that Anderson will re-write the screenplay with a new partner -- even though the project's been written and re-written by the likes of Zak Penn, Stuart Beattie, Michael Brandt, and Derek Haas.

More on this slow-moving project when info becomes available ... but I bet that car's gonna look pretty neat.

Well I'm the one guy on this site who didn't think AVP was THAT bad, but whatever. I've never been a fan of the game. The guy on the box of the game does look exactly like the rock though.

Paul W.S. Anderson, the same guy who brought us Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon, Resident Evil, and Alien vs. Predator is helming this film. Well, now I can officially put Spy Hunter in my "avoid at all costs" list.

P.S. Umm, that guy on the box IS The Rock, mojodaddy.

I've been a fan of the game since it was in the arcade way back in the day. But that's back when there was virtually no story to speak of. I was interested when I heard Johnson was doing it, but now that Paul. 'AVP' Anderson is on board, all I have any interest in seeing is the Interceptor.

yep that's the rock.
but really is PWSA really that much worse then John "I haven't directed a good american movie in since Face Off" Woo?
Paul's movies are usually mildly entertaining if not in anyway "good."

Well yeah, it's definitely a step up from John Woo. We might get frogs falling from the sky, but at least we won't get doves flying out of the Interceptor in slow motion when the agent gets out.

Screw this man. He turns everything that could be cool into something with a formula. HE SUCKS. Resident Evil coulda been amazing...it wasn't. AVP coulda been "R"...it wasn't.

Uh, I think you're confusing Paul W.S. Anderson with Paul Thomas Anderson. They're completely different. One's really good (PT) and the other (WS) is not as good.

This keeps him away from directing a movie i might actually be interested in seeing! I think he should helm BloodRayne 2 next!

Oh, wait, I forgot this is an Internet forum. Uh...hmmm. Okay. Here's my actual response:

"Of course I'm right and you're an idiot for not knowing the difference, my god how can you even call yourself a film lover, you frickin moron. Get a life and move out of your parent's basement."

There, hope that wins back some of my Web cred, although I still can't bring myself to horribly misspell words and mangle the language.

Oh crap. I'm glad it's not Uwe Boll, but still. Hopefully W.S. Anderson will make a good movie out of this, but odds are, it ain't gonna happen.

somebody really needs to make a list of all the major film directors out there, from best to worst. the ol' RT think tank should get together and rank directors from best to worst the way they do with just about every genre of movie. of course, Boll would be the worst director out there today, followed by PWSA.
