Guillermo del Toro Announces His "Hellboy 2" Cast
by Scott Weinberg | June 06, 2007
Discuss Article
We already know that Ron Perlman, Doug Jones, and Selma Blair are coming back for "Hellboy 2: The Golden Army," but what about John Hurt and Rupert Evans?

That'd be a "yes" on Mr. Hurt (although only for a cameo) and a "no" on Mr. Evans. (I guess they just wrote his character out of the second adventure.) And hey, what about Jeffrey Tambor? He was pretty funny in the first "Hellboy."

New additions to the series will include veteran actor Roy Dotrice a king, Luke Goss as the head villain, newcomer Anna Walton as Abe's new girlfriend, Brian Steele and John Alexander as various monsters, and the voice of Thomas Kretschmann as "Johann."

"HB2" hits the screens next summer.

Cool. I'm guessing that John Hurt will only be in a flashback scene.

Of all the "minor" comic book characters (relatively speaking), Hellboy seems to be one of the only ones to get a decent film. This is mainly because of Guillermo del Toro, who is a dark-fantasy genius. In fact, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army has the potential to be more financially successful than the first one, especially since this will be del Toro's first film since Pan's Labyrinth.

I really didn't dig Hellboy as much as everyone else seems to have done. I just found it a bit...lame. Well-intentioned, but yeah, underwhelming.

Loved Hellboy, it was the best comic book movie when it came out, it may have been passed by bigger budgeted comic book characters since but with Del Toro at the helm number 2 should jump right back up there with the rest of the elite.

Yeah and hopefully with a bigger budget so they can work on their visual effects.

Why are they getting rid of Evans? I honestly thought his role was almost as big as Hellboy's.

I still wish Guillermo was doing Halo instead. Actually I wish Halo was happening at all. This will still be a cool movie I can't hate on it. But I'm just a sucker for Halo after playing it so much and Guillermo would have been a sweet director for such a visually captivating world.

why no evans?! he was useless. he had no 'power' and brought nothing to the story other than a human love interest to Liz. the comics never had an evans and his role in the film did nothing to further the BPRD talent.

YEEEESSSSS! Johann! i love his character. will Roger be in the next film?!

this has the makings of a better film from the casting choices.
these tidbits are the first bit of concrete, positive news i've heard about the film.

as for Jeffrey Tambor: while 'funny' he brought a laughable, stuffy shirt elelemtn to what should be cool. the BPRD should be sometimes corporate evil (greater interests and behind the scenes players) and, more often, the place where shit gets done. they wrote it in the first more har har and cheapened the cool.

Im still lost on the whole "new girlfriend" thing. Didn't him and Liz end up together at the end of Hellboy? WTF?

Also, more Tambor. he was good comic relief.

I wish abe sapiens voice wasnt so, C3 Po ish, only thing that bothered me in the first film, oh and not enough different monsters.

I wanna see hell unleashed in this sequel, and i want a huge variety of monsters, those squid dog things just kept popping up over and over.

Ron perlman was a piece of casting genius though! he is a legend.

I would love to see Perlman play JUDGE DREDD in a remake/trilogy!

dagreenman18; Abe was the fish guy, not Hellboy. Liz + Hellboy.

Yeah, you're right. I just think it would feel awkward without him. That's probably just me though.

I hope David Hyde Pierce is back to voice Abe. His voice fit with the character perfectly.

Luke Goss as head villain, this movie will rock!!! He did a great job for GDT in Blade II as Nomak and he will be great in this sequel also..This will be the best movie yet and Hellboy will have a nice boost from the attention Luke will bring it.. Cannot wait for this one...

You weren't paying attention if you think Rupert Evans added nothing to the movie. He was a big part of the chemistry and charm. I am sad he's not in Hellboy II.
