Trailer Premiere: "30 Days of Night"

Josh Hartnett has found his way into another movie adaptation of a graphic novel, and we have the trailer premiere right here on Rotten Tomatoes. "30 Days of Night" tells the story of vampires laying siege to an Alaskan town during 30 days of darkness. Hartnett plays the town's sheriff who has to protect his wife and the remaining survivors from these nightwalkers as they wait out the darkness.

The movie is directed by David Slade ("Hard Candy") and also stars Melissa George and Ben Foster. It is slated for released on October 19 of this year by Columbia Pictures.

Looks promising. My roomate let me read the graphic novel, and it read just like a movie. Hopefully this movie stays relatively faithful to the graphic novel.

I cannot believe I didn't know that they were making 30 Days of Night into a movie! I have to whole series of graphic novels and they all kick ass and the movie looks just as good!

Because this one is actually good. It's an original premiss that makes even the vampires have character. Overall, it was a solid read with few complaints.

The only person on the cast I'm skeptical about is Melissa George. She doesn't strike me as Stella, especially if they decide to make the sequel "Dark Days" into a film, as she will be the lead character. She's not a bad actress, but not particularily good either.

Well it has a kick ass poster!

Seriously, dealing with vampires in Alaska with 30 days and nights of straight darkness without sun. That is an awesome premise. The premise alone makes it better than most vampire movies.

I'll admit the premise of vampires being smart enough to look for prey in an area with extended night time is original, but don't the days last longer up there too? They'd have to sleep/fast for a longer period as well.

I'm just tired of the same vampire-human conflicts. Bloody vampires snarling at humans, and humans wielding shotguns and sharp objects... its just turning so generic now. I'm not bashing 30 Nights, I just hope it doesn't offer more of the same boring vampire movie action.

Long periods of dark in the arctic occur during winter in the norther hemisphere when the sun is so far to the south of the equator that it never even rises. During the summer this trend is reversed, with the sun being so far north of the equator that it is light for days at a time. Corresponding night/day cycles occur in the antarctic as well.

Now, I haven't read the graphic novels so I don't know if this is wrong or even addressed, but if the vampires adapted to hibernate during the summer then I guess that'd be advantageous to them.

And what would you prefer, some absurd Anne Rice lycantyhropes going about their androgynous business dressed in ridiculous Victorian clothing and pattering on and on about a masquerade while seducing boys and girls and painting or playing keytar in some sort of Velvet Underground knock off band? I'm personally glad that the beast was returned to the world of bloodsuckers.

looks no where near the style of the comics. if it was animated, it would have been a much better way to capture the look of the books. maybe all comic book movies should have been animated (not cg animated).

I was born and raised in Anchorage so I know a little history. The US bought Alaska for $7 million. And in Barrow (the Northern most city) the sun can't be seen for about 2 months in the winter.

I like vampire movies, when they are good. Too many vampire movies are just blood and guts, like all horror movies are now. No style. The last truly good vampire movie was "Interview with the Vampire." Occassionally a decent one comes along, like "Midnight Mass," but generally vampire movies have gone the way of the Western and musicals. A comeback is in order I think. Vampires have always been more interesting than werewolves, and deserve better stories to sink their teeth into. Maybe this one will do the trick.

Looks like a damn fine vampire film for a change! Kinda reminds me of what 28 weeks later did for the zombie film.

In general vampire films are boring to me, as are zombie flicks. Thank god for someone getting zombies to run! So simple.

The vamps in this trailer look less like people with fangs and wrinkly foreheads. Very interesting, although i hope it doesnt just become too much running and screaming in the dark, yawn!

Oh, and there had better not be one single scene where they think they kill a vampire then sit next to it while the weapon is lying on the floor next to it. Cringeworthy! Dont you just hate that in horror films? Hills have eyes anyone? And Wolf creek? and almost all other horrors do it.

The poster isn't THAT great. It looks just like the one from 28 Weeks Later!

On a side note, the trailer was pretty scary, the premise is interesting, and I've heard great things about the graphic novel...so I'll give this one a shot.
