Producer Starts Talking About "Beverly Hills Cop 4"
by Scott Weinberg | June 11, 2007
Discuss Article
Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura hasn't gone as far as hiring a screenwriter just yet, but don't be too surprised when he does...

Fans of the "Beverly Hills Cop" series may be pleased to learned that the producer is definitely planning on (maybe) kick-starting the franchise again. Apparently Eddie Murphy is down with the idea, although it doesn't look like any contracts have been signed just yet.

Here's what LDB told CS.net:
Quote:
"'Happening' would be too strong a word, but we are working on a take," he told us. "We have not hired a writer yet, but we've been analyzing the franchise and asking lots and lots of people about Alex Foley. 'What do you love about Axel and what would you want to see with an Axel Foley movie?' I think we have enough information now that we'll probably be hiring a writer in the next four to eight weeks and taking a good shot at it."
And all this time I thought "Beverly Hills Cop 3" had demolished the franchise. Huh. As an Eddie Murphy fan, I'd be a whole lot happier with this than with, say, "Norbit 2." Right?

seems logical, anything that was a hit AT ALL is having a sequel. murphy really hasn't been that funny in a long...LOOONG time though. i just think with this getting another sequel...can happy gilmore 2 REALLY be that far away??? sandler hasn't been funny for years either. loved the Beverly Hills Cop series but i would be decently shocked if this was funny

Geeze, I've never seen the third one...its never on the movie channels just the first and second. I liked the first two alot though. As long as they keep this one funny like the first, with all the swearing and whatnot...keep it at an R rating, Id see it. Norbit had its funny times. Like when the girl was chasing the dog with the car. I must have been the only one to find it funny though.

Sandler...geeze, he needs to pair up with some funny people. Like Will Ferrell, or Eddie Murphy. Or even Mike Myers...but his last movie, Reign Over Me was awsome.

as if the fact that it would be #4 in the series isn't worrisome enough, they're asking people what they liked about the main character. that's t r o u b l e. i would be less concerned if the producer said something like, "we have a great script and a great story and it made sense to bring the characters back for another movie." instead they're going to solicit the opinion of every half-wit and moron in the mistaken belief that if they satisfy these people, somehow they'll make a movie that's worth spending $10+ on.

This reminds me of the Judge Reinhold scene in Clerks the animated series. When he dreamt of getting back together with Axel so they could run around and put bananas in everyone's tailpipes. That's good schtick!

The third movie had a different partner for Judge Reinhold. But Balky from Perfect Strangers made a return. Maybe they could dig him up for #4 as well.

Why is it that every hit from the 70's or 80's is getting a sequel? is Hollywood just stuck in some kind of nostalgia rut or something

ugh, this sounds terrible.

eddie murphey hasn't been funny in years. he's only a shell of what he used be. plus, we don't need more sequels, we need less sequels.

Yeah its pretty much nostalgia as there are a lot of people who wanna see their favourite films/cartoons from 70s or 80s continued and brought to the big screen in an updated version. People love the nostalgia feeling ( a lot, certainly not all) and this could produce lots of lots green for the big studios. But having said that, the originals tend to lose their appeal and orginality after a lot of sequels, but a lot of people wanna see their favourite characters again and again, to kill some time. This strategy becomes very profitable for filmmakers.

First of all, Shrek 5 comes out in 2013, if you'd been paying attention you'd know.

Second of all, Spider-Man doesn't move fast enough for a 2015 release of seventh film, assuming they HAD one.

stoober, hollywood is full of moochers and "writers" who can't come up with original ideas, or worse...people REFUSE to leave their ONE good idea alone and run it into the ground(uhm...Georgey Lucas). its all about $, and if you already have a movie that has millions of people locked in NO MATTER WHAT...then you have a leg up on the competition before you even begin shooting the film.

If it does get made, it would only be for the money and to boost Eddie Murphy's flagging career. There's no creative reason for BHC 4 to even happen.

I've heard Murphy is only down for "family-friendly" material these days and that he wouldn't do anything to ruin his new and lucrative public image. All of those yokels who turn out for another Dr. Doolittle-style romp would have a rude awakening to their genial comedy hero busting caps and dropping f-bombs.
