Who's Up for Some More "Scorpion King"?
by Scott Weinberg | June 15, 2007
Discuss Article
Another one for the "sequels we just didn't see coming" file: Another "Scorpion King"?

Our source indicates that, well, we don't exactly know if The Rock is coming back to reprise the title role, but word is that Universal might want Russell Mulcahy to direct the sequel. Mr. Mulchay is presently finishing up on "Resident Evil: Extinction." His other films include "Ricochet," "The Shadow," "The Real McCoy," "Highlander," and (ugh) "Highlander 2: The Quickening." (Oh, and "Razorback," which still isn't out on DVD.)

So yeah: "The Scorpion King 2," which would be a sequel to a prequel to a sequel of a remake. Right?

I agree, make a new one
I think Scorpion King needs another round. This could be like Conan the Destroyer, more action, better story, more interesting characters. The first film left us hanging, making the Rock's character into a ruler. They need to use this next film to bring the story up to the Mummy 2, when he forces his army into an unwinnable battle, makes a deal with a God to rise victorious, but is cursed by this deal. At least one more movie must be made to explain why his character became what he fought against in the first King (power-hungry).

The first film wasn't that bad, had some good action sequences, and a pretty good story. (if you overlook the pseudo-cheesiness of the opening sequence).

Agreed
Scorpion King wasn't that bad,it was silly fun, but they completely fucked up with what could have been a hardcore action masterpiece. I could see this being an R.

While i agree, i could watch another scorpion king film, if the rock was still in it.

I totally dissagree with your conan comment. CONAN The BARBARIAN was waaayy better than CONAN the DESTROYER. CTB was more realistic and gritty, and was and still IS the best barbarian film ever made! Followed closely by BEASTMASTER.

Scorpion king was entertaining enough, its a shame they had too many kid friendly goofs in it though. It was good where it could have been great. Wish theyd cut the gags from these kind of films.

If he doesn't do it, some wrestler that nobody's ever heard of or somebody that will be even worse in the role will be cast. Unless it's some great choice I'm not thinking of, I still believe The Rock should play the role.

I want to see it made because I think Russell Mulcahy deserves a career resurgence. The guy made the 1st music video to appear on MTV and directed the first highlander movie and after the Shadow he kind of ended up in DTV hell.

i actually liked the scorpion king flick. as long as they don't try to cgi the sh3t out of it...it could be decent again. it doesn't compare to the Mummy franchise but, it could be worse.

lets face it, what has the rock done lately?? seems to have gone the way of Vin Diesel...so i HIGHLY doubt he'd say no to this. besides, from what he's said in the past...he really likes the character and all that other blah blah blah stuff

Scorpion King was a decent action flick. Giving him another round would not be that bad. The Rock has a lot of crap on his plate. He has had a bad streak her of late. I'd like to see him do another action film. Let;s face it, DOOM sucked hard. What ever happened to Southalnd Tales?

Well they've been planning on making a scorpion king trilogy when the film came out in 2002, so my response is "I'm not surprised" and if The Rock doesn't come back for the sequel-then i won't watch it.

The Scorpion King was so disappointing, judging from the Mummy Returns I was expecting the film to follow a dark warrior down a path of self destruction not Hercules the Legendary Journeys Lite. Unless the next film follows that theme I hope they just ignore the first film and any possible sequels.

The Scorpion King without The Rock.... hrm.... no thanks! If it has The Rock and possibly even more hotness from the lovely Kelly Hu, then I might be interested.

yeah, the first one was horrible, the person who said it was silly fun, I wish it had the silly fun from the 2 mummies, but what was saddest about the scorpion king is that it tried to take itself seriously.
