The guys who are in charge of early marketing for Marvel's "Iron Man" have been keeping us pretty busy over the last few weeks. And now comes a rather cool new cast photo.

Disney Halts DTV Sequels! Hooray!
Good news all around. Plus, get this: Disney CCO John Lasseter has called the upcoming Tinkerbell movie "unwatchable." Ouch.

Well, according to one source he sure seems to be ... maybe.

Laurence Fishburne and indie production company A-Mark have acquired rights to Paulo Coelho's spiritual adventure novel "The Alchemist," with Fishburne having completed a screenplay, and also planning to direct.

"V For Vendetta" helmer James McTeigue will direct "Bangkok 8," the first in a three book best-selling mystery series by John Burdett.

Bradley Cooper will star with Sandra Bullock in the comedy "All About Steve," for Fox 2000 Pictures, with Phil Traill making his directorial debut.

Shoreline Entertainment has set Jeremiah Chechik to direct the adaptation of Kem Nunn's novel "Pomona Queen."

David Ondaatje will direct the remake of Alfred Hitchcock's first film, "The Lodger" for Sony Pictures.

Stephen St. Leger and James Mather will write and direct "The Lost Squad," based on the Devil's Due comic written by Chris Kirby and drawn by Alan Robinson.

William Wisher (writer of "Terminator 2") will write and produce "Escape of the Pacific Clipper" for 20th Century Fox.

"We Are Marshall" screenwriter Jamie Linden will adapt Nicholas Sparks' novel "Dear John" for New Line Cinema, with Channing Tatum set to star.

George Hickenlooper will adapt and direct Colin MacKinnon's espionage thriller "Morning Spy, Evening Spy," with Todd Traina producing.

Mos Def will star in and executive produce the drama "Bobby Zero," with brothers Markus and Mason Canter writing and directing.

Arielle Kebbel and Emily Browning have joined Elizabeth Banks and David Strathairn in the remake of Ji-Woon Kim's "A Tale of Two Sisters."

Djimon Hounsou will star in the drama "Get Some," with Jeff Wadlow directing for Summit Entertainment.

Megan Fox has joined Simon Pegg, Kirsten Dunst, Jeff Bridges and Danny Huston in the cast of "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People," the adaptation of the Toby Young memoir being directed by Bob Weide.

Let's hope he gets a quality remake.

Haha I have a topless mermaid statue that I use for a coffee table and I painted her to look exactly like Ariel. Topless of course.

Disney should just stop making copies of all the cheap sequels and recall the current copies from the stores. Roll out Tinkerbell and Mermaid 3 as quietly as possible and put everything into promoting the new theatrical projects and home video releases of classic movies. There are enough copies of the sequels out there that they'll be available in second-hand shops, e-bay and internet file sharing for years. If the sequels were produced under the belief that kids will watch anything (and sales seemed to prove that), then kids can be entertained without desecrating classic movies. They'll just get their pablum from somewhere else.

On a tangential note, it's decisions like these that could lead to open discussion of releasing Song of the South on DVD. Maybe "integrity" isn't a curse word at Disney anymore, like it was under Eisner. The movie is part of Walt Disney's legacy and of course has conveniently been slipped into the memory hole so that the man himself can escape criticism for the sincere racial tone of the movie that bears his name. That Disney the man is viewed as an American icon without acknowledgment of the racial content of Song of the South is historical revisionism without shame, a perversion of the truth. America has to face up to the fact that Song was considered acceptable children's entertainment as little as 21 years ago, during the modern 80's era. Now, Disney is a literal media empire that covers up it's own embarrassing secrets with censorship, a whitewashing of their founder's legacy, and refusal to face up to mistakes (except where the mistakes are harmless little video productions that wouldn't bring down the wrath of the NAACP.)
