Peter Berg to Be "Gone Like the Wind"
Actor/director (or is that director/actor?) Peter Berg just keeps lining up projects: in addition to "The Kingdom," "The Mission," "The Losers," something called "Bran Mak Morn," and next year's Will Smith/Charlize Theron vehicle "John Hancock," Berg has just announced he'll be directing (and producing) "Gone Like the Wind."
What's "Gone Like the Wind," you ask? Well, as Variety reports, it's what the kids like to call an "equestrian-themed drama" -- specifically, one telling the tale of Barbaro, the horse who won the 2006 Kentucky Derby. Folks who like to watch the ponies already know what happened after that, and we won't spoil it for you here; suffice it to say that if you cried at the end of "Old Yeller," you might want to leave the theater after the first 20 minutes.
"Gone Like the Wind," which has been acquired by Universal, will be adapted from a Vanity Fair article written by Buzz Bissinger -- who, aside from being the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "Shattered Glass" and the also-Berg-directed "Friday Night Lights," is Berg's cousin.
Berg is currently in production on "John Hancock," which is scheduled for a July 2, 2008 release. No dates have been announced for "Gone Like the Wind" yet, but presumably Berg -- who seems to be working overtime to get that role in "Corky Romano" to scroll off his resume -- will get started on the film sooner than later.
