Jim Carrey Signs On to Be a Yes Man

Continues the comedian's string of "high concept" comedies...

Anyone who just got done sitting through the Number 23 DVD is probably wondering what happened to the silly Jim Carrey. Well, it looks like he'll be back in Peyton Reed's Yes Man.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedy is about a guy who decides to say "yes" to absolutely every question that comes his way. Obviously all sorts of comedic hijinks will inevitably ensue.

The project is based on a book by Danny Wallace that WB acquired a few years back. No word on who'll be on adaptation duty, but you'll probably remember Peyton Reed from flicks like Bring It On, The Break-Up, and the rather underrated Down With Love.

More on this "high concept" comedy when it hits the wires. Sounds like a potentially amusing project though.

i have not watched number 23 yet but i have yet to...... this could e good but it sounds like liar liar for some reason.... and i am hoping it will not be a romance because all of those movies up there have some romantic element involved...... i was actually personally hoping that him and Tim Burton would do that "Believe It Or Not" project.

I like Carrey as a dramatic actor. I like his performances in Truman Show, The Majestic, Man on the Moon and really really liked him in Eternal Sunshine. E.S. was great because his only comedy that was 'jim carrey' comedy was a 3 minute scene when he was a kid...kinda. He was boring and good.

I like what he is doing. He is keeping his career on 2 paths. He may never be a box office success in drama but I hope he keeps that side of his career going. I hope he manages it better than Robin Williams. His comedy went DOWN THE DRAIN. Part of it I think was due to the fact that he didn't do comedy for so long he became irrelevant.

I look forward to a good Carrey comedy. This sounds more promising that Dick and Jane.

I agree with the dramatic acting bit, although 23 was a POS. As for his comedy...pass. And I'm talking all of it, the old and the new.

just saw 23 last night actually...was ok, predictable and not very creative past the middle but...decent. even though his movies aren't as funny as they were early on in his career...carrey is one of the best all around actors of our time. to me, one of THE best "based on a true character" performances was him being andy kaufman. i still remember watching that movie and forgetting at times that it was carrey. that to me, is the ultimate sign of a great actor. only other guy that routinely can make me forget who the actor is in real life...is christian bale, dude's in a league of his own

Exactly, the number 23 was midocure, not TERRIBLE like most people say. It certainly doesn't deserve to be on the top 100 worst movies list. Any worst movies list that has that film and doesn't have Pottie Tang... well, there is obviously something wrong there. Anyway, he is one of my favorite dramatic actors just like Robin Williams. They are both amazingly talented, and I hope he continues down the dramatic path.

Come on RottenTomatoes! Can't you fill us in with more news about Jim? Because there obviously is. But don't worry guys, ill fill you in since RT can't. I find RT doesn't post much about the man.

Yes Man will begin production in October with a script written by Nicholas Stoller. And Jim will follow it up by a Disney film, playing Ebenezer Scrooge and the three ghosts of Christmas in "A Christmas Carol," with Robert Zemeckis at the helm. Jim will then try and squeeze another Movie in before the "strike." Possibly "I Love You Phillip Morris," a dark indie comedy or Ripley's, but that is slim.

But Jim's goal is to get 3 movies filmed before June.

I think it's good that Carrey realizes that we all want more Bruce Almighty's, Dumb and Dumbers, and Ace Venturas and less Number 23's.

First off, Robin's last stand up was amazingly funny. Not just...oh thats funny...but gut wrenchingly funny (olympic skeelers). And Robin has gone towards a more family oriented PG to PG-13 route with his comedy. RV was kinda lame but it wasn't unfunny and it definatly had that Williams comedic flare. (Just hope he doesnt keep doing rap)
RW's drama also is fine tuned (Good Will Hunting.)

I think ol Jimmy is on the right path here if he does one comedy after every two dramas. Eternal Sunshine was incredible and heartfelt and that is his gem in my opinion because I could not see anyone else in that role besides Jim Carrey.
I remember when Truman Show came out it was like his attempt to escape comedy and get out of Ace Ventura mode. Now that he is successfully out of that and enough time has passed he can go back and do comedy without us waiting to see if he will say "SMOKIN!" again.
