"I would really like to do that," Giamatti revealed. "Did you ever see Bubba Ho-Tep? Great movie. And that director [Don Coscarelli], I love that guy's movies. All the Phantasm movies and stuff. But we are trying to do it."
A commitment like that should be money in the bank for Coscarelli, but it turns out B-movie legend Bruce Campbell himself may be the hold up.
"Bruce Campbell was waffling around about whether he wants to play Elvis or not again. So that's the problem, Giamatti says, "I'm playing Colonel Parker, which will be great, but you gotta have Elvis and you really want him playing Elvis, so hopefully we can get him to do it. If not, I'm sure they will try and find somebody else but I think it's contingent on whether he'll do it or not. It's a great script, a completely insane script. I would love to do that because I love [Bubba Ho-Tep]. It's a great movie."
For another outrageous Giamatti role, check him out as a family-bound hitman in Shoot 'Em Up, opening September 7.

on Aug 23 2007 12:23 AM I still haven't seen Bubba Ho Tep but I've been meaning too. The thought of Bruce Campbell as Elvis fighting mummies and vampires is too hilarious to pass up. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 23 2007 03:46 AM This is one of the few prequels with promise. Doesn't mean it couldn't turn out to be a disaster, but as far as prequels go (Texax Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning), this could turn out to be good. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 23 2007 05:58 AM I love Bruce Campbell as much as the next guy (um... girl). My husband even interviewed him for a radio show he used to have here in Miami. But if he doesn't agree to do this role it would be a big mistake. Bubba Ho Tep was his second best work - I liked him better in Hudsucker Proxy but Bubba Ho Tep is a close second. Butch should jump on this like the last chicken leg at an all-you-can-eat buffet. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 23 2007 02:29 PM Although I thought Bruce was great in the movie, I'll have to go against the current and say that I think the movie as a whole was that good. Too disjointed and didn't really blend the horror and comedy very well. But hey, that's just what I think. I'm sure Bruce will come around to doing it once he's done with the Old Spice commercials. on Aug 27 2007 02:16 PM Old Spice, Evil Dead, and Spiderman cameos notwithstanding, his Bruceness seems to be keeping plenty busy with the new Burn Notice show. I hadn't heard about it but a few weeks back had the tube on USA in the background and thought I heard Bruce's voice. I've been watching the DVD set of Brisco and recognized it immediately (he should have been a megastar after that show). I looked up on Burn Notice on the net and added it to my Tivo. Only seen two eps so far, but it's pretty decent. Bruce is kind of the sidekick, but he's still Bruce. He also a bit heavier and looks older than the last thing I saw him in (he is 50 after all), but it fits the character. Didn't care for Ho-Tep, so if he does the pre-quel, I hope it's better. Giamatti is awesome too (one of those guys who's great even if the movie sucks). Elvis vs Vampires could be cool. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Sep 21 2007 12:01 PM Now that Bruce is done with the first season of Burn Notice he should have the time and hopefully the desire to bring back the King. Come on Bruce if we can't get you to bring back Ash at least give us Elvis and some Vampires. Pieces Satan (Reply to this) |
