The Ten Commandments Get CGI Makeover
Sadly, Kirk Cameron does not appear to have a role.
Good news, God-fearing animation fans: You will soon have something besides Veggie Tales to watch, thanks to the efforts of Promenade Pictures. A whole lot more, actually, according to a report published by Variety yesterday.
Promenade's got tons o' scriptural fun in store for moviegoers, in the form of a twelve-part, CGI-animated series titled Epic Stories of the Bible -- and the party starts on October 26, when the first installment in the series, The Ten Commandments, is slated to open. As you might have guessed, this isn't a terribly big-budget affair, at least not initially; Commandments is opening in a limited number of theaters (Variety puts the number between 500-800). But what a cast. From the article:
"The Ten Commandments" is narrated by Ben Kingsley, with Elliott Gould voicing God, Christian Slater as Moses and Alfred Molina as Ramses.
Personally, we always sort of assumed God looked like Barry Gibb and sounded like Patrick Stewart, but hey, Elliott Gould is cool too. And Christian Slater as Moses? Stroke of genius.

Isn%u2019t there a commandment that says such movies and remakes are not to be made? If not then it%u2019s high time God summoned Moses back to the mount for an update. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 24 2007 05:54 AM Yeah I know, you ruined the fun though. It usually takes about 10 posts before someone realizes that something is amiss or you get someone who's not sure and says "Charlton Heston died?" I still contend that even though he's alive he may still be rolling in his grave. It's only slightly less shocking now :) (Reply to this) |

on Aug 24 2007 07:51 AM I'm a little confused why it says Christian Slater as Noah at the end of the article when he is playing Moses. Also, the Charlton Heston version of The Ten Commondments was not that great- it was overblown melodramitic and poorly written-- like all of De Mille's crap. This Animated version could be a welcome change. Maybe they could start playing this one every year at Passover instead of Heston's. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 24 2007 08:24 AM This sounds like a fitting voice cast, but I was hoping for Gilbert Gottfried as God, French Stewart as Moses, and Dakota Fanning as Ramses. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 24 2007 09:15 AM Didn't they already do an animated version of The Ten Commandments and call it The Prince of Egypt? Hopefully this one wont have another crappy Mariah Carrey song for me to suffer through during the Oscar telecast. (Reply to this) |
