Actor Owen Wilson has reportedly been hospitalized after a suicide attempt, according to two tabloid publications. He is in stable condition.

If you haven't heard the news by now, here are the distressing details: "Sources" told both The National Enquirer and Star magazine that Wilson was hospitalized Sunday for attempting suicide. Without getting too graphic, suffice to say details include a cut left wrist, pills, and detox. Wilson was reportedly found by a family member around noon Sunday, and was being treated at Santa Monica's St. John's hospital. Click here for the National Enquirer "World Exclusive."

Although a few outlets are reporting the story, it seems they are all sourcing the Enquirer and Star (see Variety, Fox News). TMZ was able to confirm Owen's hospitalization in a statement from the Santa Monica Police Department (which, incidentally, kind of reveals Wilson's home address) but verification has yet to come from non-tabloid sources. Expect more info to come soon.

**UPDATE** Owen Wilson has released a press statement to Reuters asking the media for privacy as he recovers from Sunday's incident.

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," Wilson, 38, said in a statement released to Reuters.

In other tragic news, over at TMZ they've posted pictures -- not just the story, but photos -- of a very severe car accident involving Nick Hogan (son of Hulk, co-star of their family reality show Hogan Knows Best). Hogan is reportedly in serious condition, and his passenger is listed in critical condition. And while we might usually leave these and other celebrity items out of RT News, last week director John Singleton accidentally killed a pedestrian who was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk in Los Angeles. Drugs and alcohol were not involved, and Singleton will not be charged in the accident.

Ummm. Well....it is hard being a celebrity. You think fame and tons of money equal happiness and a good life!? Thats odd. Thats just ignorant.
I hope for his and his families and his loved ones sakes, that he is going to be ok physically and emotionally. Its comments like these(the one calling Wilson an idiot) that make it hard for me to take the majority of the people on this website seriously.

you guys are morons, you have no idea what is going on in his head, and no it's not fun being a celebrity, it is not easy to live day to day being separated from the rest of the world and never being able to communicate with people in a real way because your face evokes such a strong reaction. there are a lot of challenges in life, and making a living and making money is by no means the greatest of human endeavors or the hardest of things to achieve, nor should the amount of money one has be the rating of happiness. It is people like you, who think that celebrities are some how more or less than human, some how different from you that make them do these things, you claim their pain is not real, that they don't suffer because they have money and fame? as if thats the only thing one needs. A depressed person has the hardest time of anyone feeling love, and I tell you it's the truth that celebrities often have the hardest time feeling love, because they know that most people love them for what the newspapers report, and they feel that no one would ever love them for them because no one could ever really get past the celebrity. When people are on the road to notoriety no one tells them that they will be thrust from the common world, they are being sent somewhere where there are very few people, no one tells them what they are in for, and they have no way of knowing. And some people never recover from the shock of it all.

I just love how people seem to know wgat being a celebrity is like. Whatever... all I know is that he was helped and got the help he needed and his life was not lost. Obviously, those critisizing have no clue how suicidal thoughts work. None of us know what was going on in his life... so we should not snap to "moronic" judgements. Butt out!

Man I love Owen, such a nice guy. So sad to read this story. I don't know why he felt he had to do it but he has so much in front of him to accomplish, he's talented why throw that all away.I hope he recovers from this, physically and mentally.

Part of the problem with American culture is that celebrities are depicted to almost mythological proportions. These are just regular folks people. They have the same basic issues everyone else has. They are constantly under a microscope and have to read comments about themselves such as some of the comments above. I would seriously turn down celebrity status if it was offered to me.

Sooo why is everyone assuming he tried to kill himself over something to do with this celebrity? I mean, could it not just have been something like his wife/girlfriend leaving him, or something related clinical depression (which no amount of money can cure)...

Hell, maybe he was very attached to his pet manatee and it died. Could have been anything.
