New Release Dates for Hitman, The Spirit
Slashfilm's got the scoop.
If you're an action fan, chances are you've got your eye on Timothy Olyphant's Hitman and Frank Miller's The Spirit -- and Slashfilm is here to help you pencil in the appropriate dates on your filmgoing calendar.
First things first: Hitman, the Olyphant-led videogame adaptation covered in our Fall Movie Preview, has had its release pushed back from October 17th to November 21st. Slashfilm doesn't give any official reason for the studio's decision, but the article does note that the move will put Hitman in the thick of a fairly crowded field, including The Mist, Enchanted, No Country for Old Men, and August Rush. It's worth noting that Hitman seems to be more of a shut-off-your-brain-and-enjoy-the-ride actioner than anything else on the slate, but still, the move suggests some last-minute turbulence behind the scenes. (To get a look at some Hitman trailers, click the second link below.)
Looking ahead, Lionsgate has announced a January 16, 2009 release date for The Spirit, the Frank Miller-directed adaptation of the classic Will Eisner comic strip that will star Gabriel Macht, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Eva Mendes. As Slashfilm points out, January is an historically unusual month for a film like this, but the studios have been inching their blockbusters further up the calendar in recent years -- and if the movie's good, it won't matter when it comes out anyway.

on Aug 27 2007 11:39 AM That's a long ways off till The Spirit comes out. I knew something was going to have to get bumped off that weekend in October because it was damn full. But postponing to another full weekend kinda makes me think it's going to happen again and will end up coming out in the spring. I do want to see it though, so hopfully not. (Reply to this) |
![]() on Aug 27 2007 02:03 PM why is eisner's masterpiece being treated like an unwanted mutt? january for the spirit, when will they learn to respect a classic legend like denny colt and put his last signature moment in a month that is as prosperous for good films as the january weather is for morning glories? this is a slap in the face to spirit fans like myself and i just hope fans like me are there to save this movie from being completely insulted out of the theatres. let us all march down and wait for it believing it will top 300 and even the masterpiece, sin city! hope i can count on you frank and it would help if you hired talented actresses! not you scarlett, of course but the actress that made nic cage's acting look good in comparison in a recent comic book film critically acclaimed disaster!
