Kane & Lynch Has Its Script

This looks much, much better than Joust.

The videogame on which it's based isn't even in stores yet, but apparently, Lionsgate is so gosh-darn excited about its Kane & Lynch adaptation that it's gearing up to start filming this fall.

Specifically, the studio is said to be thrilled with the script delivered by screenwriter Kyle Ward, whose previous credits include...well, nothing, really; although he sold something called Fiasco Heights to Michael Bay's production company in the spring, the bulk of his career has been spent as an assistant at DreamWorks.

Earlier reports had speculated that Jieho Lee would direct Kane & Lynch, and was writing a script with Bob DeRosa. The IGN article mentions that Ward's script beat out Lee and DeRosa's, but says nothing about Lee's involvement in a directorial capacity, so it seems safe to assume he's no longer attached.

So what's Kane & Lynch all about, anyway? From IGN's report:

The story will parallel that of the Eidos game, which involves a mercenary named Kane and a "medicated psychopath" called Lynch. The two encounter one another while en route to death row, and together they decide to embark on a quest for revenge against Kane's former employers, one of those mysterious and covert organization types.

The game has been described as being heavily influenced by Michael Mann, and bearing more than a slight resemblance to 1988's Roy Scheider / Adam Baldwin thriller Cohen and Tate.
