Saw V Still On Track for 2008
No rest for the wicked series, producer says.

Saw IV is the fourth Saw film in as many years. After reports that the Saw franchise would finally take a year off, producer Mark Burg countered that he's still aiming for October 2008 to unleash Saw V.

"This is the first time we've actually started developing story ideas before a movie came out," said Burg. "We have a really good take for where we want to go with the next one but it's not good enough yet. My goal is to have another Saw movie next year. However, if the script doesn't come together, then we won't. We've got a really close idea. We've got two thirds of a really good idea but I've spent the last weeks, four hours a day, meeting with the writers to flesh it all out."

Should all go according to plan, co-producer Oren Koules wants to take October 2008 to the next level. "I would be surprised if we're not out for '08," said Koules. "The only argument is I want to play on Halloween day because 10/31 next year is Friday. They want to go 10/24. It's a big debate. We're '08 unless something dramatic happens. We have a pretty good story. We're not there yet but we have a really good story."

So they will do this every year for how long?

As long as they don't start doing "SAW....in space" I guess I still might watch it when its out on dvd. For some reason mixing most franchises with a space plot/location in a sequel always sucks (Jason X, Leprechaun 4, Dracula 3000, etc).

They never really recover after the space sequel as well.

Just saw Leprechaun in Space...terribly cheesy, yes, but it's not like the previous installments were revelatory works of art either.

The last I heard, they were making 6 of them for sure, and were gonna try to do one every year as permitted.

Supposedly, although the report above doesnt seem to indicate this, they have a whole storyline that weaves together and should end with all the questions as to what was jigsaw doing, why he was doing it, how & why all the victims / particapants were involved, like a real big story that has been broken into chapters.

Leprechaun movies were entertaining...the Saw series isn't anymore. at least they're smart enough not to take a year off though.

drichter, haven't they TRIED to explain the story every single time? especially in the last one...making it more of a Lifetime movie than a horror?

Someone please, for the love of all that is holy and sacred, give Saw the axe!

Leprechaun better than Saw? I'm sorry man, I respect your opinion but- 'Leprechaun in Space'? 'Leprechaun in Da Hood'? '... Back 2 Da Hood?'? Although it's not bounds better, 'Saw' is a better franchise easy.

This thing is going to continue until we see a movie called: "Saw Vs. Hostel" on which the guy from saw is on a trip in Europe, he checks in a strange Hostel filled with teenagers and then.................."

Why do they need writers and a story to rehash the same crap every year? Can't they just have the special effects gore guys do that? I mean what the hell are they doing for four hours a day, over the course of multiple weeks? It can't take longer than 8 hours total to write one of those movies.

Hey, this would be great news if Saw IV was any good. But it wasn't.

The original Saw was great, Saw II was good, Saw III was OK, and Saw IV was sub par.

So, do I really believe that Saw V is going to be better than the one before it and break the pattern? No.

Take a year off and work on making a good movie and stop just trying to suck the money out of our pockets.

Already, having story ideas (even two thirds of one) puts them far ahead of Saw 1, 2, 3, and, probably, 4. This will be the best Saw ever!

IMO Saw 1 was great, Saw 2 is my favorite, and Saw 3 was ok, I suppose. I didn't like how they killed Jigsaw and that ruined it for me.

I haven't seen Saw 4 yet but will probably rent it when its out on dvd at Blockbuster.

My guess is that they will probably go to Saw 50 featuring Zombie Jigsaw and then just start all over with remakes of all the Saw movies yet you know people will still see it regardless.

I won't be surprised if SAW continues to be churned out as straight to video films just like THE LAND BEFORE TIME.

Where's the disconnect - these films are making money hand over fist. Most of you have claimed to have seen the latest...MAYBE THAT'S why they aren't direct to DVD and still being made.

If the franchise wasn't doing so well they wouldn't be making one every continuing year.In my opion it is smart film making, number one and two are still my favorites 3 was good as well.......But i haven't seen the 4th one yet.At least thease movies bring a bit of creativity to the big screen

the writers strike doesn't affect the saw franchise as apparently there are no writers.
