Mark Wahlberg to Play Max Payne?
The man sure does love cop roles...
by Jeff Giles | November 09, 2007
Discuss Article
The third installment of the videogame series might still be in limbo, but Max Payne is coming to theaters -- and he might look a lot like Mark Wahlberg when he gets there.

Variety reports that Wahlberg is in negotiations to star in 20th Century Fox's adaptation of the popular game about a "cop who is haunted by the tragic loss of his family and has little regard for rules as he investigates a series of mysterious murders." John Moore is set to direct, from a script by Beau Thorne.

Taking on Payne would add to an already-crowded slate for Wahlberg; he recently stepped in for Ryan Gosling on the set of Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones, and will be starring in M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening next summer.

The game is really awesome and has so much potential! I really hope they make it amazing, don't know if they should at the bullit time because the matrix allready did that. Just make it really dark.

Hollywood should switch video game roles around. Timothy Olyphant should play Max Payne. And of course, Jason Statham should play Agent 47. And I guess that would leave Mark Wahlberg a role in Dungeon Siege....

How cool wouldn't it be if Scorcese did this one..........

It should have a ****-ton of bullit time. And have slow motion eyeballs shots and head shots and crotch shots and all the other places that make you scream "ouch!, that had to hurt!" or "Damn! You KNOW he's dead!". But really, this should be cool and mark is always brooding and kinda dark so he'd be a good call. It will be great to see those creepy maze levels interpreted for the big screen.

I am psyched. Think this has way more potential than Hitman as a movie. Besides, they have an A-grade actor in Wahlberg so that is kinda showing that they aren't half a$$ing the movie. I could be wrong :P

Never really played it, but from the game clips, I thought Mathew Fox (Jack from LOST ) looked like Max Payne.

I believe David Boreanaz (from the tv series Angel) would be great for the role, he looks like Max Payne as well I think, but he is not a big name, so...

YES! I've been waiting for this movie forever. Wahlberg is a great pick. And whoever suggested Scorsese as director is a genius.

Looks like another cinematic pile of garbage for Marky Mark. I really thought after The Departed he was gonna start putting out quality work, guess I was wrong.

The best to play Max Payne, aside from the accent, would be Jason Statham with hair.
He would've been perfect as Agent 47 as well but meh. Better luck next time.

i really liked shooter and this will be another kick-*** role for mark wahlberg, but i am not so sure bout the director john moore the guy has yet to direct a decent movie. Keep dreamin' bout Scorsese ain't gonna happen, it would be the last thing on earth he would wanna do, make a movie based on a video game.

As cool as Max Payne is as a cinematic video game, when has there ever been a good adaptation of video game to movie? There's a few guilty pleasures like the first Mortal Kombat, but the rest are pretty forgettable. I'm not gonna get my hopes too high for this film.

I'd pick John Woo to direct, the game was so based on his style that he'd fit right in. Marky mark is a good choice, he'll just have to dye that awesome mp of hair

AWESOME! this was one of the most memorable games i've ever played. excellent storyline, crazy dark premise, and tongue-in-cheek noir storytelling. mark wahlberg would be perfect. i can't wait.

Good call on the Scorcese and John Woo for the direction of this film. If Scorcese was to direct this movie, aside from the idea of it being based off a video game, the story revolves around a cop going after the mafia which is right up Scorceses alley.

Aside from what everyone is saying about who looks like Max Payne, who cares about that? Who can play the best Max Payne is the better question, I think Ray Liotta would be great.
