BioShock Movie in the Works?
Summary
Ah, videogame adaptations. Critics hate them, audiences mostly ignore them...and yet the studios can't seem to get enough of them, which is why -- if the latest rumors are correct -- BioShock could be coming to a theater near you. Back to Article

BowieSwimmer writes: on Jan 12 2008 02:01 PM Bioshock has an amazing story. I'm just not sure how it would translate to the big screen. For sure, a Zelda trilogy would be fantastic. If they adapted it to the [huge] potential. The game is so cinematic on its own... (Reply to this) |

jedimaster5000 writes: on Jan 12 2008 05:39 PM hmmm, I never played this game but I did heard it wa pretty good. I hope Peter Jackson gets to Direct this (but seeing that people don't like him, like those damn movie people, then I don't know who else would be good...) Whats the story about this game anyway? I always want a Prince of Persia movie, not to mention Twilight Princess (even though most of the time we would be seeing a, whats Midra's species again, and also Wolf Link, talking thats doesn't matter) (Reply to this) |

Warheart1188 writes: on Jan 12 2008 09:59 PM If they do decide to adapt Bioshock into a film, they'd better hire some damn good writers to adapt the amazing story. And they'd better get a good director. Uwe Boll is not allowed. But in all honesty, I don't see a Bioshock film happening. I think they'll overdo it and it'll be very cheesey. (Reply to this) |

w@velength writes: on Jan 13 2008 11:58 AM A video-game-based movie can never be good because of the nature of the mediums. Movies are passive, video-games are not. Take Hitman; it wasn't only like watching someone else play a video-game, it was like watching a stupid person play a video-game. Pass. (Reply to this) |

Spiderbash writes: on Jan 13 2008 03:27 PM I would probably see it no matter how bad or good it is. (Reply to this) |

jeremyd4 writes: on Jan 14 2008 03:31 AM PRINCE OF PERSIA would've been my #1 pick for a game-to-film adaption... but this is being done now, so I can commence eating my hat. ASSASSIN'S CREED would be fascinating too, given it's mesh of historical GR - Monkey Island - Full Throttle - Dig - Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (oh wait... a movie about an archeologist would never work) But seriously... all these would be great to see on the big screen, and with LucasArt behind them, why the hell hasn't this happened??? Adventure games are the perfect foundation for films. SERBIA and MYST/RIVEN etc... all have actually stories as opposed to HALO (which is unorignal - it just has pretty graphics). (Reply to this) |

Dijjot writes: on Jan 14 2008 01:46 PM Im sure bioshock, like most games could be a great cinematic experience (it already was). Im worried about the green screen. Its not really needing. Build a ****ing set. really. (Reply to this) |

Vortaine writes: on Jan 17 2008 01:51 AM It won't work. I love Bioshock, but if there is one thing working against a movie adaptation, its the game itself. As it has been mentioned earlier, the story is set. While yes, I'd love to see it on the big screen, the character you play doesn't have a face, and barely a name. His actions are your choices, and I cant see how that would transition to a movie. Its not unlike halo or metroid. The character, to a large degree, is meant to be malleable, that way everyone can relate just a little bit to them when you play their stories. Its why, save Master Chief, none have any lines! Link, Samus, Jack, no lines! (or barely anything, not enough to write a screenplay) Also, think about Big Daddy Encounters. How does an ordinary guy (well, almost ordinary) take on one of those, to quote an engineer from TF2, "mean mother hubbers" and come out unscathed? How about 5 of em...or 10!? Its too big and too complex, and the morality mechanic that basically makes the game stand out, will have to be absent because, lets face it, what does hollywood know about morals? (Reply to this) |

Stew Pidaso writes: on May 10 2008 11:47 PM Bioshock can work as a movie. Playing the game is like immersing yourself in a movie. I hope they don't focus too much on the action aspect so much as the story behind Rapture and the characters involved. I enjoyed Bioshock so much because it was a cerebral story, especially for an FPS. It steered clear of the stereotypical space, WW II and old village settings that plague video games.
