Bond 22 No More: New 007 Movie Gets a Title
Producer promises to double Casino Royale's action.

It's going to take a little getting used to, what with months of referring to it simply as Bond 22 and all, but the next 007 caper has an official title.

IGN Movies just happened to be at the film's Pinewood Studios set Thursday when the official announcement was made: Bond 22 shall henceforth be known by its proper name, Quantum of Solace. The title, appropriately, comes from an Ian Fleming short story that originally appeared in the For Your Eyes Only collection. The synopsis of the book, according to IGN:

It revolves around a boring dinner party attended by 007 where he strikes up conversation with the elderly governor of the Bahamas. He tells Bond a story about a tragic relationship between a former civil servant and an air hostess that ends in bitter divorce. Apparently the story gets Bond thinking about his own life -- and makes him realize his own adventures often do not compare to the real drama of everyday human life.

Fortunately, this has nothing to do with the plot of the movie, which will pick up where Casino Royale left off, and -- according to producer Michael G. Wilson -- contain "probably twice as much" action. A taste of the official synopsis follows:

Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (Judi Dench) interrogate Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who reveals the organization which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an Mi6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a ruthless businessman and major force within the mysterious organization.

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world's most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (Joaquin Cosio).

Bond 22 -- sorry, Quantum of Solace -- is scheduled for a November 7, 2008 release. To read more, and see pictures of the cast at the Sony press conference, click below!

people tend to hate what they fear and fear what they do not understand. no one is going to understand what that title (or two of the three words that comprise it) means, so, via the transitive property of equality, people will hate this title. c'mon, it's science.

the 'twice as much action' prjection is nice and as far as the title is concerned, people will do what they usually do when a bond movie comes out: just call it 'that new bond movie.'

WHY DONT THEY JUST CALL IT "SOLACE"? ITS CATCHIER AND IS A LITTLE MORE CLOSER TO A BOND TITLE, WELL CLOSER THAN QUANTUM OF SOLACE.

Horrible, horrible title. This lowers my expectations of the new Bond film. Well, at least it isn't a remake!

If you know what a quantum is, the title makes perfect sense.

Twice the action?? NO NO NO NO NO..

NO!

The whole charm of Bond is what he is, A SECRET AGENT. Stealth and cunning antics should be his means of bringing down the baddies. Too much actions turns the movie into just another run of the mill action movie, nothing more. Too much action and you get one of the worst bond films ever- Die Another Day.

Hope they're sensible to the true fans of the series and do him and the novels justice. Guess I shouldn't complain though, Casino Royal kicked major ***.

Save yourself the money, just go rent one of the last generation bond flicks, I recommend Tomorrow Never Dies, or The World is Not Enough. Neither of those is "as boring as the first". Plenty of gadgetry and silly action for you to gorge on, leave these Bond flicks to the adults.

quantum of solace is defined as the smallest unit of compassion that two people can have. (ie Vesper and James)

It's a strange title, but it shows they're out to make something with a little more depth than Tomorrow Never Dies, etc.

anybody else think of "quantom leap" when they saw it?? i actually liked that show. anyway, it just sounds like they're trying to make it smarter than it actually is. its an action flick guys, please don't make the audience think. but hey...at least its not as corny as "attack of the clones". ah...thats classic.

Honestly, those who advocate Brosnan-era Bond films and claim that spies are more about stealth and subtleness just completely cancel out their own point.

I think the title isn't too bad at all. Succinct and with a little tinge of intrigue, "Quantum of Solace" sounds like a title that will give a potentially great Bond film more boost.

I like the title, I worry about 2x the action.

The last one had tons of action I thought.

I thought Casino Royale had the perfect amount of action. It was like an old style Bond where the action was spread out more.
