Plummer Suggests Gilliam's Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Could Go On
Lists other actors, stills, and "I think they call it CGI" as options.

Though the ultimate fate of Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus still isn't known, at least one of its stars believes the director is already trying to find a way to soldier on.

According to Christopher Plummer, who spoke with People magazine recently, Gilliam is "throwing himself into the job of trying to salvage the picture" in the wake of star Heath Ledger's death. Rumors have suggested that Gilliam would finish the film by having different actors play Ledger's role at different points in the story, something Plummer seems to confirm before suggesting more high-tech methods:

"[Gilliam is] trying to work out at this moment how to continue on. Fortunately, because the film deals with magic, there is a way, perhaps, of turning Heath into other people and then, using stills and I think they call it CGI."

Plummer also confirmed rumors that Ledger hadn't been feeling well in the weeks leading up to his death, telling People that he believed the "horrible, damp nights" on the Parnassus set may have led to the actor contracting walking pneumonia to go with his insomnia:

"He was saying all the time, 'dammit, I can't sleep'...and he was taking all these pills [to help him]."

Despite the difficult working conditions, Plummer said Ledger "was in very high spirits" and "enjoying himself tremendously," and told People he believes his co-star would have wanted the show to go on.

I wonder if Terry Gilliam believes in curses?

kind of eerie that they're thinking of pulling an "i'm not there" when that was the last movie we've seen him in thus far.

no one here likely knew ledger, but doesn't he come across as the kind of actor that would want the film to get finished, even without him? I believe he would see the project as bigger than himself and want it to be completed.

and if anyone can pull it off, it Gilliam. Here's hoping they do it right, without a liberal use of "that cgi stuff." oh chris plummer, you old codger you.

yeah, he does seem like that. Also, who knows if he killed himself on purpose or not...although it does seem to point in that direction.

I hope this is better than Tideland and Brothers Grimm. Gilliam needs to rebound.

Thats a really great idea, it makes actually alot of sense. I'm really looking foward to this movie. Terry Gilliam has been on a rough streek with Tideland and The Brothers Grim, but come on he did BRAZIL, 12 MONKEYS, Fear and Loathig in Las Vegas. He also did one or 2 of the Monthy Pythons movies.

If it's done, it must be done well. Unfortunately it sounds like he has a bad streak going right now, so I hope that he doesn't deperately over-reach in trying to accomplish this.

Don't forget dear fellow movie lovers, Terry did Don Quixote with Johny Depp and the main guy (Quijote died half-way through) Only a making0of ducumentary came out.

So right night Gillian is having 12-monkeys-out-of-the-body experience.

Bottom line: let him finish his film and digitize the late Ledger into the ramaining scenes, ala Gladiator with Oliver Reed as Proximo when he said: "Shadows and dust" Even John Candy last scene in "Wagons East" where digitally complete.
And last but not least: Jeorge Luca$ himself copy-pasted everyone in his last trilogy, the quality of his work, however is another story.

You can do this, Mr. Gilliam, I have faith in you. Please keep going. I need this movie!

I don't think of TIDELAND as part of a rough streak. I think it's one of his very best films and was a great return to form after the disappointing (thought still entertaining) BROTHERS GRIMM. But I'm a Gilliam fanboy so what do I know...

I really want Parnassus to see the light of day.

I agree. One bad movie doesn't make it a streak. I didn't care for Brothers Grimm but Tideland was great.

Tidelnad is a rock solid film, if not one my my favorites by Gilliam.

I really hope he finishes this thing. At 67 years old there won't be that many more out of him. Please don't let this one collapse as well.

P.S. I still wish they could get Good Omens of the ground again. That honestly sounds like the most promising thing he's been involved in since 12 monkies.

Honestly, Mr Gilliam has two good movies (everybody should know what I'm talking about).

The rest... mediocre, at best.

Heath Ledger was a great actor and will be missed.

Cheers.

...I was hoping this would be the film that gives Tom Waits more acting roles.

I think Ledger would get a kick out of others playing his role, like "I'm nt there" gives Dylan a kick. I don't remember Dylan complaining about Cate Blanchett playing him!

Hell, Let Cate Blanchett play one of the Ledger Scenes!
