Exclusive: Jason Isaacs on a Return to Harry Potter
The Brit actor mourns his character's absence in Half-Blood Prince.

Jason Isaacs - Eric Charbonneau/WireImage.comActor Jason Isaacs told RT at this past weekend's BAFTA awards in London that he was disappointed not to have returned as Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth Potter film which is going before cameras now. "It's a source of great embitterment in the Isaacs household," he joked with RT, "but he's in Azkaban so what can you do?"

After attempting to steal a prophesy from Harry at the end of Order of the Phoenix, which arrived in cinemas last year, Lucius is, of course, arrested by the Ministry of Magic and sent to the wizard prison of Azkaban. Those who've read the final book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will know that Draco Malfoy's villainous father does reappear to make a final stand.

"I hope I'm coming back for seven," Isaacs told us, "Dan's going to Broadway to do his play for a long time, so I don't know when or if I'm going to come back. But I'll be even more bitter if I don't get to return for seven!"

Isaacs also told us how positive the Harry Potter experience was for him and many of the actors involved. "Everybody likes each other and knows each other," he said, "The whole thing goes very easily and there's none of the normal tension you have on films wondering about whether it'll work, because we know it works."

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince hits theatres in November, and we can expect Deathly Hallows to start production early in the New Year.

His part in the DH is far too essential to cut, so he'll be back.

Was it just me or was he hinting that DH might never happen?

Of course they'll do Deathly Hallows. Far, far too much money involved for them not to, and there's absolutely no reason they wouldn't. Radcliffe did Equus in London in-between the filming and release of Order of the Phoenix, so I wouldn't assume he couldn't do the same in New York when Half-Blood Prince wraps.

Isaacs was just saying he doesn't know when they'll start the film. There's also the issue of the potential actors' strike to think about.

If there's any movie sequel that we can be absolutely assured that will happen - Deathly Hallows is it.

Isaacs is one of those actors that just oozes villainy...to the point that I have a hard time imagining him NOT playing a villain.

He does. I can't imagine anyone else in the role. Well, maybe I could, but he's so good there's no point.

Alan Rickman and Jason Isaacs. The two best villains currently working in Hollywood in the same movie series. No wonder it's been such a success. Now, if only they could have a word with Micheal Gambon about how to portray Dumbledore.

Optimus Nerd he played an awesome Ranger in Black Hawk Down. He was a hard ***, not a villain but did a great job.

I feel you big brother. It's not that he's bad, but I just don't think he does the role justice. He's been playing Dumbledore too short-tempered. In regards to Jason Issacs, though, I think there is no better actor for the role. He kind of is Lucius Malfoy.

I don't know anything about acting nor have I ever seen his acting in other movies, but what I do know is he is good in Harry Potter.

Watched Peter Pan, kept wondering where I had seen Wendy's father and Cpt Hook before. Mystery solved. Yeah, he rocks, no matter what his coiffe.

What about the villain from Knight's Tale? Why don't we see more of him?

You mean Rufus Sewell? He's around, just not in big blockbuster things. If you saw The Illusionist you saw him. He's also in The Holiday.

I was really hoping they would split this movie into two and get more of the subplots in there.

These last 2 films will be an utter cluster***** if they don't let the running times hit near the 4-hour range for each. I know it won't happen, but seriously, STOP LEAVING IMPORTANT STUFF OUT!
