Check Out RT on At the Movies!
Editor in Chief Matt Atchity makes a guest appearance on the new show.
by RT Staff | September 19, 2008
Discuss Article
With the departure of Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper from their iconic film review show, At the Movies was recently revamped and relaunched with new hosts and a new format. Now starring Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz, the show has a decidedly more "pop culture" feel to it, and features a segment wherein three guests are invited to discuss a movie or two.

Obviously, to attempt to fill the shoes of Siskel & Ebert, Ebert & Roeper, or even Roeper & Friends is an audacious undertaking. But, we're happy to report that our very own Editor in Chief, Matt Atchity, was invited to participate in the show's Critics Roundup segment. In the first of what we hope to be many appearances, Matt takes part in a brief discussion about Righteous Kill in the very next episode, scheduled to air on Sunday, September 21st. Nice job, Matt!

I like you Matt and congrats on getting your name as well as the RT name out there, but At the Movies is now a shell of its former self...I wish the best for you Matt and all of the RT Staff, but I will never wish the best to Ben Lyons, Ever!

Yay, Matt. And the new "At The Movies" isn't as bad as thought.

I'm happy for Mat, but the new at the movies doesn't compare. More of a pop feel... no more like a cheap feel.

. .. Yah, if you'd have punched Ben Lyons in the mouth I would have been pretty happy. I don't really consider him a critic, he's more just a talking mouth with too much hyperbole and sugar.

I'm screwing something up, I can't seem to be able to find the thread for the Review Revue. I wasn't able to last week either. . .

I don't know if they can handle Jen. . .

The rating would have to be at least a TV-14.

Ben Lyons is such a bad movie critic. His father's "connections" has taken him places, I can see. Hey! no one ever said life was fair.

I think Hammond is the worst film critic living, total kiss up, but Ben Lyons is definately a #2. . .

Its so sad to see critics of the caliber like Ben Lyons replace

such quality and respected critics, Roeper and Phillips, but what can you do?

Thankfully, Matt makes the show a worthwhile watch now... and I too can't

wait for Jen Yamato's premiere performance on the show!

Ha, I wish, guys! But thanks for the love. I'll work on it. Matt's done a fine job though!

p.s. We've linked directly to the Review Revue the last few weeks, so there isn't a place to comment. But duly noted! I like having the feedback as well.

Ben Lyons seems like a nice enough guy, but he just doesn't belong on that show. I'm looking forward to seeing Matt on there, but that 'Critics Roundup' segment is a mess. Between the heavy editing and the five people talking over each other, it's truly unwatchable.
Maybe in weeks to come they will replace the segment with a 'one on one', just Matt and Mankiewicz. Then Matt can just replace Lyons outright. Now that would make for an interesting discussion and a good show...

I seriously doubt anyone over age 30 with any semblance of intelligence will be persuaded, in the postitive, by a Ben Lyons' "review."

Hell, when he giggly loves some kind of movie, I'm far less likely to see it.

I think it's good they are on the show. They'll hopefully be able to get more peeps to come to RT.
