interesting choice, since now he will be playing two different heroes, an one is a DC hero, while the other is Marvel.

I thought Bradley Cooper was going to get it for sure after the success of The Hangover and the fact that Reynolds is already Deadpool.

As someone who has almost no familiarity with the comic book persona, I for one think this is a good choice. Reynolds has the wide appeal that will be needed to make this a success. Let's face it, much of the movie going public has no clue about the Green Lantern, but after seeing Reynolds on the cover of Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago, I'm sure my wife will be much more likely to make the "sacrifice" of going to the movie with me.

Okay, as long as they don't show his face at all in Deapool and cover it up with either his mask or the make-up, this might actually work. But if they even try to squeeze in a little bit of Ryan Reynolds face time, it could ruin the Hal Jordan image. As long as they treat him like Hellboy or Joker, and effectively 'bury' Reynolds in the Wade Wilson character, I'd be happy to see him again as Hal Jordan.

@Rizzyh

Well, something tells me that if pretty boy Ryan Reynolds couldn't wear a mask in Wolverine, then he's probably not even going to dawn the trademark Deadpool costume for his own movie.

I'd just like to see Reynolds get in character for a change, it always seems like he's just playing himself in movies.

Reynolds got people to see The Proposal, that's what this choice is based off of.

I don't know what this will do with the Deadpool spinoff (which probably isn't a good idea anyways). But if they can get Lantern done in a timely manner, it could work. And that's an interesting "what if" pertaining to Reynolds being the face of two comic book films.

Might be hard if Deadpool is released first since most will have already firmly established him as said character.

So much for him playing The Flash if that ever happens.. which would be a much better fit for Reynolds

I don't care if it was given to a PB&J sandwhich as long as it wasn't Justin Timberlake.

Weird. Reynolds is just really hard for me to take seriously. I agree with previous poster he seems more Wally West than Hal Jordan. And the whole "Deadpool thing is weird too. I just wish he would just chuck that and stick with GL. Anyway this was a surprise on one level but on a financially conservative level this makes a lot of sense. He is the most bankable choice. I'm just glad it didn't go to Cooper.

And so begins Warner's snail crawl to achieve enough mainstream buzz to guarantee a sizable opening weekend. December 2010? Unlikely. $150M budget? Destined and unwise.

hmmm...I like Reynold's. I just don't think this is good casting. Hal Jordan isn't really the fast talking wise cracking type. At least that's not how he is portrayed in the comics. I can see Reynolds as Flash and Deadpool, but this seems like a stretch. I would have never have selected Heath Ledger for the Joker either though. So, hopefully Ryan will surprise me.

i agree that reynolds doesnt fit the type to play hal jordanplus hes already a comic character which he fits better, i thought bradley cooper would be better. i guess its better than justin timberlake though.

I see you're in fortune cookie mode. ;-) Seriously though, why is that budget unwise?

Disappointed. Reynolds would have been a pitch-perfect Flash. I have no doubts that he can do Lantern convincingly, though.

Oh well. Perhaps in the eventual Jusice League movie, he and whatever comic guy they DO get for Flash will be able to play off each other well. I wouldn't mind seeing those two partner up and wreak havoc while wisecracking.

Which brings up a good point: what are some other options for the Flash, then? Bradley Cooper, perhaps, if he consumed MANY espressos before each take?

Hal Jordan is a goody two shoes boy scout type character, much like the silver age Superman (well, all silver age DC heroes, actually). Unless Ryan Reynolds has some acting chops I'm not aware of, this is a terrible choice.

They had already achieved that notion the moment they cast Megan Fox in Jonah Hexx.

Of course Buck is going to think this is a good move, because it is DC, everything they do is great. But whenever there is news about a marvel movie it is automatically ****. You are a complete tool

Ahh. The good Captain, my old nemesis. Come to torment my people again with your bullsh.it, have you? Well help us settle a riddle then while you're here. Since when, strange traveler, has Buck ever hated everything Marvel?
