25 Most Anticipated Films 2009

As we head into the final stretch of the year, RT takes a look at the films to get excited about

2009's more than halfway done, which means the end of the US blockbuster season and a decidedly mixed run of sequels, toy franchises and flop comedies obscuring the year's occasional quality films. So as we head into the final stretch of the year, it's time to get excited -- as District 9 is showing, this is the period when great movies sneak up on us without the hype, Oscar contenders unspool, and undiscovered oddities emerge. Of course, the year-end also yields its share of massive films, with new stuff from Pixar, James Cameron and the Twilight franchise still to come. Let's begin...

'Into The Wild' pretty comical? Pardon?

Anyway some good films in there. I'm particularly looking forward to 'The Road', '500 Days Of Summer' and 'Up'. I'm interested to see if 'The Lovely Bones' is a return to the more intimate film-making of 'Heavenly Creatures' for Jackson, don't get me wrong I love his more bombastic and splatter stuff too, but the trailer seemed a bit overwrought and mawkish, albeit visually stunning. However I generally dislike all trailers, even for films I like, so I'm sure the film will be fine.

While I am excited about James Cameron's return to feature film-making but 'Avatar' is still a bit of an unknown. I'm eager for the premier action auteur to show fools like Bay/McG how it's done I just hope that the story doesn't end up being overblown and overcooked.

im particularly looking forward to lovely bones, basterds, and avatar. Peter jacksons heavenly creatures is an amazing movie and also has a shockingly realistic death scene, also coincidentally i live in the city where the crime happened lol. Even though basterds divided the cannes critics, you could come to expect that from a violent movie with nazis in it. im hoping this will be as good as his other movies. And lastly, the director of two of the best action movies ever made is making an action movie with the worlds best special effects team(weta). Avatar is certainly the most hyped film in a long time and it has a right to be.

also, where the wild things are was my favorite book as a child. But its like 10 pages long- seems like an abstract idea to make a tiny book into a film but i guess it will be good.

I guess they're counting it as Fall even though it's in the beginning of September, or at least I hope that's the reason it was skipped...

Zombieland looks like a poor remake of Shaun of the dead

Jennifer's Body looks like the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen. Don't mind it being on the list cause let's be honest people will like seing the Fox being half naked, but numer 10 come on. I am so excited about the where the wild things, but not really into avatar, but I am sure it will do well.

Sorry GreenFox got to call you out, where the wild things are can't be a rip off of the Never ending story because Where the wild things are was written in 1963 and the never ending story (movie) came out in 1984. Also the Never ending story book did not come out until 1979, so if anything is a rip off it is the never ending story. But I will agree that this list is very weak.

Zombie Land looks like it might surprise us all as a killer funny comedy. I like how they went with Adventureland's shy and awkward Jesse Eisenburg this could make his fame or even Emma Stone's fame.

I'm not gonna lie but I'm freakin excited to see Whip It, awesome cast. Ponyo has a killer cast probably won't see it but Dameon, Blanchet, and Fey you can't go wrong. Jennifer's Body looks like it will make Megan Fox's career go down the toilet.

can't wait to see Whip It!,as I'm a big fan of derby. That said, I don't think it's gonna bring millions of fans to GO to a bout like some people think it will.
