I am a huge Highlander fan. That being said, the Highlander franchise is kinda like a dysfunctional relationship. In the beginning it was good, exciting, and fresh (Highlander 1). Things progressed, and you started to know them a little more and it got a little weird (Highlander 2). Eventually the relationship got to an unrecognizable level (Highlander 3) but since you don't want to be alone you take them back and things are even more effed up than before (Highlander 4: Endgame). Lastly you are on the breaking point and literally the only reason you are now together is because you do not know what else to do (direct to DVD Highlander 5: The Source). Therefore, I am looking forward to a new girlfriend, a much younger and probably less intelligent as well as more expensive one (Insert Highlander reboot title here).

I'm just going to say that Alexander Skarsgaurd from True Blood would be a wonderful leading man for this.

Sean Connery's career is rolling over in its grave after this news.

Highlander was the first DVD that I bought [$30 NOT well spent]. I've seen the movie a number of times, and each time I like it less. Highlander 2 is still one of the worst movies that I've ever seen. The only distinction that Highlander 3 has is its still the one and only time that I've left a movie theater without staying until the end of a movie. I had enough sense not to waste my time with 4 & 5.

The Highlander series literally makes no sense whatsoever. It doesn't tell a coherent story, the logic of the Highlander universe is totally convoluted. This franchise has always been an excuse to mix elements of fantasy and science fiction.

But really, can anyone tell me what the hell Highlander is supposed to be about? Aliens from a far off planet, who fight with swords, come to earth to compete in a form of mortal combat because for some reason 'there can be only one'??? Do they ever even explain why there must be only 'one'??? And why does Sean Connery speak with a scottish accent if he's supposed to be spanish??? It just boggles the mind.

Besides, unless Queen is doing the soundtrack, its not Highlander to me, just a cheap imitator.

The second one (named the 'Rogue' version, after many years of confusion and distaste) effed things up pretty badly. The first one had a great premise, but it was thrown together so cheesily (yes, I said cheesily), it didn't come off very well and looked like a SciFi channel made for TV movie. As the special effects got better throughout the rest of the films, the storylines got worse and worse. I can only hope that they do the original story justice by actually giving it some sort of budget that can warrant the special effects needed, as well as get a 'mature' enough cast that will portray the characters well. Please, no faggity Paul Walker or Vin Diesel trying to pull off Scottish accents.

eric from trueblood would have to be the bad guy. he'd make a damn good bad guy though. just can't see him being the hero.

Actually, come to think of it, Highlander 2 was renamed the 'Renegade' version, not 'Rogue' like in my last post.

saw this on tv the other day and wondered "when's this going to be remade"...guess that answers that. keep it simple, keep it light...and it could be decent. the alien ideas have got to go though.

since we're talking remake, i'm posting it again. REMAKE SHOWGIRLS.

I'm pretty sure that Highlander fans don't consider the second movie to actually exist. :)

1 was decent. 2 isn't cannon. 3 was a retread of 1. And 4 was a silly attempt to tie in to the TV series. Didn't see 5.

(The TV show filled out alot of the setting, as well as probably contradicting some of the original movie stuff, since it had a bunch more screen time to deal with. Still a bid sad that the spin-off show, Raven, didn't continue. It was starting to get interesting.)

The first Highlander was classic in its day, it captured a feel that I hope can be recaptured, ie the queen soundtrack and various scenes set in scotland etc. But a reboot could be good, I think Thomas Jane looks just like Lambert too.

BUT, that said... The director of Tokio F****ing Drift?????? Why reboot a classic with massive potential, with a dumb director like that?

Thanks, yep, I reckon Thomas Jane could not only fit the role of Mcloud, but he is the closest looking actor to Christopher Lambert that we have. Also, he is decent at action too as proved in the Punisher.

Check out a great film with him called STANDER.

When the first one came out it was so out there it was awesome. It was also a complete story and didn't need sequels to mess with the story line. The tag line of the film said it all. There can be only one.
On another vein, how about a Logans Run reboot. It is in dire need of it and can be a great contemporary story. Just stick to the damn book this time.

I couldn't get past "The Third Wall" with HIGHLANDER (there was always something distancing me from "engaging" with the characters); maybe a remake wiull draw me in.
