Sundance 2010: RT's 10 Most Anticipated Movies

We pick the handful of features you simply can't afford to miss.

The Killer Inside Me

The Killer Inside Me - The hardboiled crime novels of Jim Thompson have had a tough time translating to film, with only Stephen Frears' The Grifters coming close to his dark and sleazy stylings. Filmed once before with Stacy Keach, The Killer Inside Me is perhaps Thompson's best known book, telling the story of a seemingly innocuous smalltown sheriff who hides a psychopathic secret. For Michael Winterbottom's adaptation, set in a shimmering 50s-style West Texas, The Assassination Of Jesse James star Casey Affleck plays the sadistic, two-faced sheriff and Kate Hudson and Jessica Alba play the broads. Meanwhile, for support, you can't ask for better character players than Ned Beatty, Bill Pullman and Elias Koteas.

Page 11 reminds me:
I will probably never be able to watch Adventureland again.
Which is a shame, cos it's a funny movie, but I still have nightmares of Twilight.
God...I really, really don't like Twilite.

It's nice to see so many of Hollywood's younger actors branching out and doing non-traditional roles.

Clearly the writer must have been being sarcastic when he wrote:

"a much-deserved vehicle for the underrated Ryan Reynolds, who has yet to find his proper place in Hollywood after a series of ill-advised romcoms."

I hope.

Oh, and no offense to anyone, but "Hesher" sounds like a dead-on description of (roughly) 90% of this forum's members.

You could always go somewhere else, I know I wouldn't miss the sarcasm. I've been on here a while and I would definately not say this site is populated by "meathead stoners". "Self-satisfied comic book stoners" yes, but we are a clearly different and far superior lot.

I do not befriend young boys (I'm not allowed to, but that's another story).

And I think Reynolds is an underrated actor, always liked his work. So Buried is a shoe-in for me. I have been looking forward to Splice for a while now (Cube is awesome), so I hope it's good. The rest seems ok as well.

Since I haven't seen or even heard of any of these films up until now, I have no idea or even care who wins until I'm offered at least a screening to see all those films to say the least.

'Buried' looks awesome. Love Ryan Reynolds and I completely agree he is very under rated. He's a great actor.

'Splice' definitely sounds very cool too.

And I'd like to see 'Welcome to the Rileys' solely for Kristen Stewart nude. Yep. You betcha'

BLaCKWoLF .

Buried, Splice, The Killer Inside Me and Welcome to the Rileys all feature great actors. I am actually really interested to see all of these movies now that I have actually seen what will be shown. Cant forget to mention Joseph Gordon Levitt, give the man an award or some form of recognition now please. We all know he can act already (I have even forgiven him for G.I. Joe lol).

They all look decent. Although hearing poor test audience reaction about Splice has me worried that it will be a slow boring let down unless they make some changes to it before it debuts at Sundance.

For me Howl looks interesting and The Killer inside me has two of my personal favorites who aren't where they should be Casey Affleck and Elias Koteas.

I second Blackwolf, give Joseph Gordon Levitt an Indie lifetime achievement award; Manic, Mysterious Skin, Brick, The Lookout, Uncertainty, (500) Days of Summer, and now Hesher. And we all know G.I. Joe was just a paycheck, he gets to have three houses just like every other star.

BigBrother, exactly WHAT sarcasm are you referring to?

I highly doubt most people consider Ryan Reynolds "underrated" (he's rated right about where he should be) or "deserving of a major push" (seeing as he seems to already be getting quite a "push" as it is).

Moving on (to whoever said Mark Ruffalo was "creepy looking")... his performance in "You Can Count On Me" was truly amazing, imo.

In fact, I consider him "underrated", actually. And also, therefore, "deserving of a major push".
