Looks pretty dope, but what's the purpose?
Jul 27 - 05:29 PM
I think this looks awful. I think this means yet another horrible American entry under the Godzilla name.
Jul 27 - 05:45 PM
It's just a picture of the same Godzilla we've seen for years. How can it look awful? Actually, it looks like the original one, and not the ugly US version.
Jul 27 - 05:49 PM
Maybe it's just the angle the painting has Godzilla's head at, but the original Godzilla from the 1950s wasn't my favorite, in terms of looks.I think my favorite look for Godzilla was from the 60s, or 70s, not sure now which one. But when I see it I know. The Godzilla I'm thinking of looks a bit more fierce than the original 1950s one. I prefer the one with a slightly longer snout/mouth, not that rounded-mouth one. But, as long as it looks like the earlier versions, not NOT that Godzilla 2000 version, I probably won't complain. They better NOT change how she sounds.
Jul 27 - 10:56 PM
*I meant to say, NOT that Godzilla in the 1998 version (i.e., the one with Matthew Broderick).

The one you don't like, by your description, sounds more like the late sixties through mid seventies Godzilla. The first one really does look a whole lot fiercer. (actually, the seventies Godzilla looks hella gay.)I like the 2000 design as well as the one from All Out Monsters Attack from a few years ago. That Big G had no pupils. Sick!
Jul 28 - 04:23 PM
Actually, it looks a lot like Godzilla from Godzilla 2000.In other words, it looks damn cool.
Jul 27 - 06:04 PM
I am definitely excited to see Godzilla back on the big screen.
Jul 27 - 05:47 PM
Godzilla looks awesome! I hope the next film is great.
Jul 27 - 10:07 PM
I never understood why people hated the American Godzilla so much. It wasn't the greatest but I felt it was good entertainment.
Jul 27 - 10:57 PM
Tall Cool One !
It was aweful. With that annoying blonde girl who Matthew Broderick was fawning over. And the Siskel and Ebert doppelgangers. That movie and "Wild Wild West" were two that I really wanted to like but were HORRIBLE.
Jul 28 - 05:35 AM
right on, i actually liked it. again it wasn't cinematic gold but i don't get what people expect? Zilla to give speeches, to spout Shakespeare? it was a decent action flick.
Jul 28 - 09:21 AM
Really? The american Godzilla didn't even fight the military, it just ran away and hid. Also the absurdity that something that big was dodging missiles. For me this looks awesome, I would love to see Godzilla on the big screen and done right, this image helps to give me confidence that they are currently heading in the right direction.
Jul 28 - 10:54 AM
Really? So big things never, ever run from smaller ones? So a swarm of say WASPS chasing you after you break it's nest wouldn't cause YOU to run? Especially if they were firing their stingers or little mini bullets at you?
Jul 28 - 11:35 AM
Well, Godzilla is like a force of nature, Art. He NEVER retreats and he is self healing. The American version missed those two VERY key points making the American version really nothing more than a giant lizard movie...not a Godzilla film.
Jul 28 - 04:26 PM
It was my understanding that the American version was a more realistic look at what a 50-story tall lizard would be like, not an invincible/indestructible/immortal machine of random destruction. Call me old fashioned, but I like to watch movies with characters that have weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Truthfully, it's boring to watch people fight something that cannot be beaten because there's ultimately nothing to gain. The character's efforts are in vain because if it can't die then there's nothing that can happen, nothing to change. The characters are just wasting their missiles and uselessly piloting Mecha-Godzilla until their inevitable death.
Jul 28 - 04:53 PM
Art---My problem with '98 wasn't the monster so much as the cringe-worthy attempts at humor and/or romance. Yes, every Godzilla movie involves some cheese, but this was big-budget Hollywood, so my pals and I went into that one naively thinking it would be cheese-free. We also hated "Independence Day" and "2012", for what it's worth.
Jul 28 - 06:55 PM
I swear I want to be in a crowd around all my Asian friends, point at the sky and scream it's It's GODzilla!!!!!!!!!!! and then run away.
Jul 28 - 03:57 AM
Hahahaha i gotta do that to.
Jul 28 - 10:03 PM
Man, I really hope they do it justice this time. I still havent gotten over how Emmerich wussified Godzilla( or GIN0, as fans call him) in his version.
Jul 28 - 07:07 AM
Now this looks like Godzilla, a combination of the 50s and 2000s versions, LOVE IT!!!Favorite Godzilla: 2000s version for being the most menacing and detail than all the others.Worst: American Godzilla, A.K.A. Zilla. He's weak and a coward. He got his ass handed by the original Godzilla in "Godzilla: Final Wars." Look it up on youtube.
Jul 28 - 07:12 AM
Oh yeah, I remember that from Final Wars! :). I was expecting it to some epic showdown between Godzilla and Zilla. And then in just 30 seconds Godzilla fries him! Hahaha. It be pretty much like that in real life.
Jul 28 - 09:55 AM
I didn't like the american Godzilla movie either but I thought the design for it was pretty cool and at least the awesome TV cartoon came out of it.
Jul 28 - 10:56 AM
doesnt look too bad to me
Jul 28 - 09:05 AM
So they're going back to a man in a suit? The proportions are definitely "human" right down to the Bruce Lee action pose.
Jul 28 - 10:31 AM
Like the old school approach, don't fix what isn't broke.
i just hope godzilla has another monster to fight!
Jul 28 - 11:36 AM
Hopefully will do it justice, keep it campy as well.I also didn't mind the Broderick Godzilla and I have watched all the Godzilla films since I was a child. It just isn't the same Godzilla but for a giant monster movie, it's decent.

This upgrading of RT really sucks- spammers are getting worse than ever, I can't post comments on some blogs sent to me by mail! Maybe this merger shouldn't have happened in the first place then none of these problems wouldn't have happened with the regular users!
Jul 28 - 12:35 PM
I agree 110% Dave...and I've been here a pretty long time.
Jul 28 - 04:29 PM
Looks amazing...can't wait...
