This week's Ketchup is chockful of movies featuring CGI animation takes on classic characters, as the list includes new projects based on Bugs Bunny, Tarzan and The Terminator. This was also a big week for Hollywood biopics, as both John Belushi and singer/actress Peggy Lee made the news again posthumously. The directors of two of this weeks' new movies (The Expendables and Eat Pray Love) are also represented, as are new roles for Jack Black, Idris Elba, Shirley MacLaine, Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo and Reese Witherspoon.

This week's Ketchup includes news of two new CGI- animated movies based on classic children's book characters (Babar and Curious George), director news for the new Jack Ryan movie and the latest from screenwriter Diablo Cody, as well as new roles for Bradley Cooper, Tom Cruise, Robert De Niro, Maggie Grace, Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron and Bruce Willis. We get the week started, however, with the most Rotten Idea (which is usually at the bottom of the column). But this one's a doozy!

This Week, the Weekly Ketchup was split into two columns in order to best cover all of the news from San Diego Comic-Con. The first column covered the news that came out before SDCC started, and now here is the column covering the news that came out this weekend. As would be expected, most of the news is about comic book movies, including news for Marvel's next three movies (Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger), a Superman rumor, the Judge Dredd reboot, movies based on Garth Ennis' The Boys and Will Eisner's A Contract with God and the revelation of what project Guillermo del Toro signed on for after dropping out of directing the two The Hobbit movies.

This is the week of San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), so you're getting two helpings of the Weekly Ketchup. This first segment was written on Thursday morning (just as the Comic Con is starting its first full day), and the second helping will be posted after the weekend is over, to cover all of the additional news that comes out. Included in this batch is a new movie for director Sam Raimi, new roles for Brad Pitt and Mark Wahlberg, news about the 300 sequel and an adaptation of one of the 1990s' most award-winning comic books. Note: not all news covered in either segment of this Week's Ketchup is necessarily related to San Diego Comic-Con.

This week's news includes new roles for Betty White, Amanda Seyfried, Elizabeth Banks, Mark Ruffalo and Will Smith, adaptations of the lives of Cain (from the Bible) and Senator John Edwards, and new movies with connections to THREE different Disney animated movies (Peter Pan, Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame).

This shortened week (following the 4th of July weekend) would normally be a bit light on movie news anyway, but movers and shakers are also holding back their big announcements until San Diego Comic-Con later this month, so this week was even lighter on news. However, a few tidbits still managed to stand out, including plans for movies based upon The Little Mermaid and TV's The Fall Guy, and new movies for Denzel Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Bacon and Billy Crystal.

Movies based upon Mighty Mouse, Masters of the Universe and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. also made the news this week. I was also happy to see that there were a lot less "Rotten Ideas" this week than usual, or maybe I was just in a good mood as I wrote this.
