It's a good week for mediocre films (Body of Lies, Changeling, Quarantine and Flash of Genius, which all walk a fine line between Fresh and Rotten) and an even better one if you're a Wildcat at heart -- or a fan of Zac Efron (High School Musical 3: Senior Year)! Horror fans have an enticing two-fer to consider (Quarantine and the better-reviewed Midnight Meat Train, based on the Clive Barker short story), while left-wingers get the faith-skewing Borat (Bill Maher's Religulous). Curious thrill-seekers can also check out Dakota Fanning's controversial Sundance pic (Hounddog) and nab a Certified Fresh Czech import (I Served the King of England). What better way to celebrate the inauguration of President Barack Obama by watching Oliver Stone's W. this week on DVD? While a handful of middling studio releases hit home video this week (Nights in Rodanthe, Soul Men, Blindness), the Certified Fresh pick (and Oscar nominee), Frozen River, hits as well. Celebrate Black History Month with the latest from Spike Lee (Miracle at St. Anna) or go indie with the moving directorial debut of actor Giancarlo Esposito (Gospel Hill). Finally, peruse the week's more eclectic offerings for a break from the norm -- and a well-placed roundhouse kick or two (Chocolate, Street Fighter Extreme Edition, and Bruce Campbell in My Name is Bruce).

Prepare to relive the rise (and death, and rise and death) of Jason Voorhees as the first three Friday the 13th flicks are re-released this week (Part 3 even comes with 3D glasses)! Also consider picking up Kevin Smith's latest raunch fest (Zack and Miri Make A Porno), a teenage hipster romance (Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist), a Dakota Fanning Deep South drama (The Secret Life of Bees), and new editions of an animated and a comedy classic (Oliver & Company 20th Anniversary, Being There 30th Anniversary). But be on the lookout for Jessica Simpson, as she hides out from the fashion police by taking cover in Direct to Videoland...

Add Guy Ritchie's latest cockney caper to your collection (Rocknrolla), see Woody Allen's awards season romance (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), immerse yourself in the real-life legal woes of one of modern cinema's greatest directors (Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired), and pick up a Disney classic on her 45th birthday (Mary Poppins 45th Anniversary Edition). And who out there with a Blu-ray player can resist nabbing this week's glorious HD offerings (The Bourne Trilogy, Zodiac Director's Cut)?

Mark Wahlberg brings maximum pain to DVD this week in the critically-punished Max Payne, although new horror titles Saw V and Repo! The Genetic Opera didn't fare much better on the Tomatometer. DVD shoppers will also find intriguing options in the kid adventure City of Ember, William H. Macy's Hollywood satire The Deal, a tenth-anniversary Powerpuff Girls box set, and Peter Jackson's King Kong on Blu-ray!

But do try and avoid certified stinkers like My Best Friend's Girl, Mirrors, and Seann William Scott's direct-to-video vehicle, Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach. After all, there are surprises in store, especially if the Japanese title Tokyo Gore Police catches your fancy...

Try your best to avoid a handful of clunkers new to DVD this week (Babylon A.D., The Righteous Kill, Bangkok Dangerous) and, if you know what a Cylon is, get jazzed for Season 4.0 of the best sci-fi series on television (Battlestar Galactica)!
