RT On DVD

Tuesday, Jun. 11 2013, 03:16 PM

This week on home video, we've got another trip to Oz, a revisionist take on an old fairy tale, a crime thriller with a message, and a strange journey to find a lost dog. Then, we've got some notable reissues, including a 40th anniversary Blu-ray of a Bruce Lee classic and a handful of animated Disney films. Click through for the full list.

This week on home video, we've got one big franchise blockbuster and a Certified Fresh comedy, plus two more big releases that didn't fare so well with critics. On top of that, our reissues this week are fairly impressive, even if a lot of them are films you may already own. Click through for the full list!

It's a good thing there's plenty in theaters for people to see right now, because there isn't much coming out on home video this week. The only big release is a supernatural thriller from one of the people who brought you Paranormal Activity and Insidious. Then there are a handful of smaller releases that are, in fact, so small that you may not have heard of them. Click through for this week's ultra-short list.

Tuesday, May. 21 2013, 12:43 PM

This week on home video, we've got an Arnold Schwarzenegger actioner, Steven Soderbergh's psychological thriller, and the latest Young Adult novel adaptation. Then, we've also got a comedy featuring some screen legends and a crime thriller starring Jason Statham, as well as some reissues that include a couple of Hayao Miyazaki films, an American comedy classic, and a couple of gangster flick collections. Click through for the full list!

This week on home video, we've only got a few choices to talk about, and only one of them seems really worthy of any discussion. That one is Cloud Atlas, a big movie with big ideas that may or may not have succeeded in conveying its heavy message. Then we've got a quirky little something from Roman Coppola, and the latest attempt to revitalize a classic horror franchise. Click through for the full list.

We've got some decent choices on home video this week, including an indie that opened in theaters just a month ago and has earned widespread acclaim. We've also got three big genre titles -- a Tom Cruise mystery, a Jessica Chastain ghost story, and a Nicholas Sparks adaptation -- to help add some variety. Click through for the full list!

This week on home video, we've got one of the big award-winners of last year, followed by a few not so acclaimed films, including a road trip comedy, a noir-ish thriller, and a dark farce. Then we've got a couple of smaller films and a slew of Blu-ray reissues. Click through for the full list.

Tuesday, Apr. 23 2013, 12:05 PM

This week on home video, we've got at least one Certified Fresh drama that earned some Academy Awards attention, as well as a crime thriller with a high profile cast. Then, there's also the 3D rerelease of a certain dino movie, a topical drama, and a bad spoof. Click through for the full list.

With the exception of our illustrious headliner, you can mark this down as the third week in a row we've had with just a few notable releases on home video. Maybe Quentin Tarantino's latest is big enough to render all others negligible, but for what it's worth, we also have a relationship dramedy starring Lizzy Caplan and Alison Brie, as well as an animated film from France and a small nature documentary and our customary Criterion Collection releases. Click through for the full list.

Tuesday, Apr. 09 2013, 12:18 PM

For the second week in a row, we've got some pretty slim choices coming on on home video. So much so that really the only notable new release is an FDR biopic misfire starring Bill Murray. Since there wasn't much else to write about, we're also including two others that at least received Fresh reviews, as well as a couple of new Criterion releases that may be of interest to you cinephiles out there. Click through for the full list!

Believe it or not (and trust me when I say this isn't some half-baked attempt at an April Fool's joke column), there are no new wide releases coming out on home video this week. As a result, the Avengers-themed box set will easily be of greatest interest, while everything else sort of falls by the wayside. You may not have even heard of a few of the movies featured this week, but for better or worse, you can click through for the full list.

This week on home video, we've got an Oscar winner and another Oscar nominee, a comedy flop, a couple of dark comedies, and a bit of the old ultraviolence. Plus, there are a few notable reissues from the Criterion Collection and on Blu-ray. Click through for the full list!

Tuesday, Mar. 19 2013, 02:04 PM

Three of this week's new releases on home video were recognized by the Academy with Oscar nominations this year, so that's already a pretty good start. The other three selections include two comedies that earned mixed reactions and one French import featuring some impressive performances, and those are followed by a number of notable rereleases. Tuesday, Mar. 12 2013, 12:17 PM

This week on home video, we've got four new releases that are Certified Fresh, including one multiple Oscar-winner, one animated adventure, a music doc, and an indie drama about alcoholism. On top of that, there's also the relatively well-received biopic about Alfred Hitchcock and the making of Psycho and a quirky Sean Penn-powered road trip drama. Lastly, we have a feature adaptation of the famed Cirque du Soleil troupe's performances, as well as a handful of notable reissues. Click through for the full list!

Tuesday, Mar. 05 2013, 10:40 AM

This week on home video, we've got at least one Oscar nominee in the mix (Wreck-It Ralph), but it's balanced out by a couple of duds, including an unnecessary 1980s remake and another failed Gerard Butler rom-com. Then, we've also got a French import that broke records overseas and Barry Levinon's effective found footage horror movie. To top it all off, we've got a couple of notable reissues, including a Freddy Kreuger collection to die for. Click through for the full list!

Tuesday, Feb. 26 2013, 02:42 PM

This week on home video, we've only got five major releases to talk about in detail, but they certainly run the gamut. From angsty (and ridiculously popular) teen vampires to thrill-seeking surfers, from an exploration of cult dynamics to a cinematic dream, and including a doc with that rare 100% Tomatometer, we think you'll be hard pressed not to find something to watch this week. One of last year's most talked about and (thus far) most honored films hits store shelves this week. Though it's tough to know what Argo's chances of winning the Best Picture Oscar are, at least it'll benefit from likely big rental numbers. Otherwise, we've also got Joe Wright's latest period piece with Keira Knightley, a Nickelodeon teen comedy, a fairly well-reviewed horror flick, and a ton of reissues. Click through for the full list!

Tuesday, Feb. 12 2013, 03:05 PM

This week on home video, we have the newly crowned Outstanding British Film BAFTA winner Skyfall, as well as an Oscar-nominated Helen Hunt performance in The Sessions. Then, we've got a couple of highly rated indie dramas, a powerful documentary on bullying, RZA's ambitious kung fu flick, and a subpar horror sequel. Click through for the full list!

Tuesday, Feb. 05 2013, 12:04 PM

This week on home video, we've got Denzel Washington in an Oscar-nominated performance, Kevin James in the octagon, Tyler Perry squaring off against a serial killer, and a likable indie rom-com. Then we've got a quiet drama with some star pedigree and three documentaries with Tomatometer scores of 94% and up. Click through for the full list!

Tuesday, Jan. 29 2013, 02:45 PM

This week on home video, Adam Sandler plays an animated Dracula, and Colin Farrell reunites with his In Bruges director for another Certified Fresh winner. Then we've got a couple of horror movies -- one bad and one decent -- and an action dud from the guy who made JCVD. Plus, there are a few noteworthy reissues to talk about, so click through for the full list!
