Critic Reviews for Eastbound & Down: Season 1
Eastbound & Down finds true triumph in utter failure.
Eastbound & Down is a winner about a real loser
The obnoxiousness is just a shortcut to a headache.
Out-of-control, disgusting, irreverent, moronically and maniacally funny new show that couldn't be more timely.
It seems like a middling Fox series with a monotonous glut of obscenities and some nudity tossed in to make it pay-cable worthy.
I don't know bout y'all but I'm hooked.
I am not ready to write it off: I will give it the benefit of its arc.
The comedy - and, oh, there is much of it - comes less from sight gags or clever one-liners as it does from the sheer absurdity of what transpires and the ever-increasing ability for Powers to sink lower and fail more grandly from episode to episode.
it's a tired premise - a more profane version of the kind of low-swinging sitcom that could easily have wound up on TBS.
The comedy is broad but not freewheeling.
I can't escape the feeling that it might have worked best as the first third of a comedic washed-up-athlete film.
A far cry from the cerebral comedy currently en vogue on shows like The Office and 30 Rock, but that doesn't mean Eastbound can't do sly humor that falls left of center.
The repertoire on display in Eastbound & Down feels too limited for a long stint on HBO's mound.
Eastbound & Down is a funny show if you don't expect too much.
Eastbound & Down feels like a margarine, not butter, version of Talladega Nights.
