"In Plain Sight" would amount to very little without an actress of McCormack's talent and temperament in the central role. She has Shannon down pat from Moment One.

This opportunity for lighter moments, coupled with the complicated nature of Mary's character, makes "In Plain Sight" a little less vanilla.

Shannon's mostly gruff, and the attempts to give her shadings, depth and anything approaching lovable qualities mostly fall flat.

Mary doesn't win 'em all, but "In Plain Sight" is a W for USA.

This light-hearted female copshow feels stale and nondescript, while falling short in the combination of drama and whimsy that ignited USA's "Burn Notice."

The characters are so annoyingly played and ridiculously conceived, you might think Mary should go into witness protection herself.

With this shaded tone and careful plotting going for it, In Plain Sight is a welcome addition to USA's line-up of detective shows.

"In Plain Sight" could double as a handy guide to cop-drama mediocrity.

I like Mary, especially as she's set up in the series premiere, complete with a wacky mom.
