Reba's smile can warm almost anything. But it's not worth sitting through this recycled sitcom for it.

I'd hoped a show on a bigger network that paired McEntire and Tomlin might be even better. No such luck.

Malibu Country is nothing great. But its studio-shot sitcom style sure suits Reba.

Reba McEntire deserves better and Lily Tomlin should find a new agent.

McEntire's fans will probably enjoy seeing her in anything, but it would be nice for her to get a sitcom that's as good as she gives.

Fish-out-of-water comedies are basically predicated on using stereotypes to mine humor, but there has to be a more artful way to do it than this, or at least less eye-rolling stereotypes to feature.

The charismatic country star and Tomlin's droll Lillie Mae, who successfully balances her sharp tongue with surprising softness, are entertaining, and the honky-tonk humor should please Reba fans.

ABC is trying to bring TGIF back, but this show has none of the charm of Family Matters or Boy Meets World.

McEntire fans will find the countrified fish-out-of-water story entertaining enough, while others will appreciate the actress' tradition of playing a strong woman working hard to survive without the help of a man.

If you like exaggerated Southern accents, cookie-cutter comedy puns, and single mom/teenager melodramatics, all laced with a painful laugh track, Malibu Country is for you.

Malibu Country is so old school, in fact, that it feels like a leftover from ABC's TGIF days, complete with a studio audience,an irritating laugh track and a sitcomy march-time pace.

There's a chance Malibu can find a different way to arrange these characters and build a show that could be the sitcom alternative to ABC's Nashville.

Of all this season's new MOR sitcoms, Malibu Country comes closest to getting the right balance of an irresistibly likable star, a solid ensemble cast and some legitimately funny lines.
