Maddie, an adolescent drug user, has a reputation as a party girl, although she doesn't think she has a problem. When her school guidance counselor confronts her about her drug use, it forces Maddie to choose between being expelled or entering rehab. Maddie chooses the latter option and moves into a sober living facility, where she lives with other recovering addicts. Combined with the regular pressures faced by teenagers in their everyday lives, life in rehab proves difficult for Maddie. "Recovery Road" is based on the young adult novel of the same name by Blake Nelson.

If Recovery Road continues to progress on the trajectory it lays out in its first three installments, it may leave both teens and those in recovery feeling that, for once, a TV drama hasn't patronized them. Go to Full Review

The premise here is very after-school special. Fortunately... Recovery Road avoids the overwrought trappings by dealing with addiction and recovery in a nuanced and compelling way. Go to Full Review
Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe 01/25/2016
The show is earnest and well intentioned, as it shows us a young woman grappling with denial and working to get her life on track. It's not a cynical venture. But it does make happily-ever-after into a distinct possibility. Go to Full Review

Recovery Road does a good job of capturing the complex web of both emotions and actions that are taken in the journey to sobriety suggested by the show title. Go to Full Review

With a complex heroine and snappy dialogue, Recovery Road manages to push past its hokey demeanor to become a solid drama capable of depicting addiction in an innovative manner. Go to Full Review

Teen-alcoholic redemption tales were 1970s afterschool special staples, but this wise, realistic drama is too smart to try to wrap up its main character's issues in a two-hour-with-commercials movie. Go to Full Review

09/14/2016 why cancel this show? It was great See more 09/04/2016 I love Recovery Road, this show rocks and it's one of the best new shows of all time. The actors and actresses are awesome including Jessica Sula who is amazing and talented pus she is my favorite. See more 03/29/2016 I just finished watching the season one finale and this is definitely one of my favourite shows now. Amazing characters and interesting dialogue. Hoping that this show gets renewed for a second season. See more 03/09/2016 Recovery road offers a real look at teen addiction in the United States. A lot of A.A. lingo and “recovery talk” is used to inform the audience about the process of recovery. The show serves up a fairly decent version of what addiction recovery can be like in all its idiosyncracies. Relapse. Denial. Living with crazy people. However, by showing the audience what is possible, it also offers a roadmap to living a new life. Most importantly, we hope Recovery Road can make the subject of addiction and addiction recovery more acceptable to teens, families, school teachers, peers... AND help lower the stigma that surrounds addiction. Good stuff! See more 02/14/2016 Saw the first episode. It sucked. Do not recommend See more 02/08/2016 Depressing premise, not sure worth anyone's time, and it is like a soap opera gone wrong. See more Read all reviews
