I didn't know much about the book and didn't know that they were making a movie about Suzanne Collins's hit ''The Hunger Games'', so when I first enter the theater I didn't what to expect, I suppose that's a good thing, I don't have much things to predict and everything is a suprise. I liked the film, is a good film but not awesome.
The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks and Lenny Kravitz and is directed by Gary Ross. ''Hunger Games'' is basicly about some kind of ''reality show'' where teens fight to the death and the last person alive wins. Every year the Capitol forces its twelve districts to send one boy and one girl to this event. After Primrose Everdeen (Willow Shields) gets picked her sister Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers as a tribute so she goes to the Hunger Games alongside Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and the story goes on and on, I don't want to spoil anything.
The direction is normal for my taste, there's a lot of shaky cam - however I liked the PG-13 shaky cam in the battlefield - and I don't have a problem with shaky cam but is really unnecesary sometimes, there's a lot of peaceful scenes at beginning that have that style, so is a bit annoying after a while. I don't know why Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson won an award for best chemistry, I didn't felt anything. Actually Lawrence has way more chemistry with Liam Hemsworth and in my opinion Josh Hutcherson is not a very good actor. Hutcherson was emotionless in this movie, sometimes he looks sad or worried, but I felt that he didn't made so many expressions with his face to make his performance a bit more believable. Is one of the worst performances I have recently seen in blockbuster. Jennifer Lawrence was obviously great and Harrelson, Kravitz and Tucci were amazing. Amandla Stenberg broke my girlfriend into tears with his performance (I cried a little bit too) and think she is a very talented actress.
The CGI was OK, I expected more and I wanted a more complex character design too but it was good.
I really liked the soudtrack for this film, well made and appropiate for the scenes.
The script was very good, it was written by Collins, so it has to be good. I really liked it.
Its a good movie, I expect more of ''Catching Fire''. Nice franchise.
