''I like you.''
Found footage movies are getting really old and annoying, we are all tired of the ''Paranormal Activity'' tradition of releasing a movie every year but ''V/H/S'' is a horror anthology movie that contains like 4 or 5 stories, I can't remember that well. Horror anthology is my favorite horror movie style, I love short stories so I was excited about this film.
It starts in a very boring way, it starts like your father's videotapes. Our parents record every single thing that happens, that's the reason with family tapes are so boring. So, the film starts with this group misfits hired by some people to steal some tapes and these guys are doing crazy stuff and trying to rape women, things like that, but they are recording every thing that happens and is hard to call a lot conversations and vandalism ''entertainment'', it gets annoying and boring. I really wanted to stop watching the movie because the film moves very slow at the beginning but I really wanted to watch the short stories.
The film has a thing that Matt Reeves did some years ago with ''Cloverfield'', the movie cuts and shows other bits of a different tape (because the guy who is filming the whole thing is recording on a used tape) so the criminals are talking and then it cuts to show some people having sex, these makes the movie a bit more ''realistic'' I think but after a while it gets really annoying. The first 10 minutes are eternal, but when the first VHS tape starts the movie gets different, it gets darker and you have that weird feeling that something bad is about to happen.
So yeah, the movie is very scary, it impacts you (it really does) but the problem I have with this movie is that every tape (including the criminals first scene) is too sexual. Is really unconfortable to watch a devilish creature giving oral sex to a guy or cutting a guy's penis and just throw it to the camera, I had to look away some times. Yes, the film is gory, really scary, a bit hardcore and almost pornographic, so if you don't feel confortable with one of those things you better not watch this film. I'm serious.
The actors are OK, we are watching an indie horror film so you don't really worry about people's performance. The dialogue was horrible, sometimes it was too boring or it was just too ''realistic'' so they didn't have interesting conversations.
This film accomplised the mission, is very creepy... actually the scariest film of 2012 in my opinion. Many people won't be able to sleep after watching this movie. So, congratulations V/H/S.
I was a bit disappointed, don't kill me, but I think it is a bit overrated. No character development at all, I find that as a horrible mistake. If the rating depends of how scary is a movie I will rate like 4/5 (because you have to wait a lot of time to get scared and many scenes were not very shocking) but the movie has some flops. Sometimes it tries to give this realistic touch but you can hear music like twice, so it doesn't make sense and it was too sexual. My rating is 2.5/5 and I hear that they already made a sequel called ''S-V/H/S'' that people says is better than the first one. I hope they don't fall in the same hole as Paranormal Activity did.
